Re: Oil interval concerns

My last passat b7 2.0 tdi 140 had 140,000 on the clock when I sold it and was on 20,000 service interval on the long life oil ( according to service book it had been on 20k intervals from new). It ran very well and never used a drop of oil. The current b8 2.0tdi 150 is on the long life 20k service s...

Re: Caravan towing with a B8?

We have been caravaning for years and have towed with our 2016 150 tdi estate for the last 3 years. Our caravan is a Swift with MTPLM of 1500kg and the car is stable performing well when towing. Only thing I have noticed is first gear is a little higher than our earlier B7 so need a little more clut...

Re: Rear Cycle / Bike Carrier for B8 Estate

Because of where the lights and number plate are located, I doubt you will get a 3 bike carrier that doesn’t require a light board and number plate.
We have opted for a roof carrier, mainly because we tow a caravan so a rear mount would work but roof set up works well when we are not towing too

That’s not a bad price you have been quoted if it includes the vehicle specific wiring kit. I paid close to £ 1000 for the detachable towbar, vehicle specific wiring kit and coding the car. That was by a local mobile fitter

I fitted genuine VW mudflaps to my 16 plate GT estate. They aren’t cheap but were easy to fit and I think improve the look of the car while helping to reduce the tar spots and stone chips.

I have the 2.0 140 and I have noticed that it does similar on cold frosty mornings but ok the rest of the time and ok after a run and fully up to temperature. May just be something to do with the weather?

I have fitted the Travall bumper protector, it probably is not the cheapest but was easy to fit and appears hard wearing with our dog getting in and out

Re: Clutch / Slave cylinder

The clutch slave cylinder is part of the clutch release bearing so it is a gearbox out job if that is leaking so might as well change the complete clutch and dual mass flywheel while you are at it

Re: Bodywork warranty

I had a 2012 passat estate which developed rust blisters on the near side front wheel arch. Took it to the vw body shop where the first question was how long have you owned the car. Apparently they will not consider a claim if you have owned the car less than a year? That didn’t matter as I had owne...

Re: Passat B8 dash cam hard wired

Hi, I have just swapped my 2012 B7 SE estate and taken delivery of a 2016 B8 GT estate. While researching the B8 on this forum before deciding to purchase it I came across this post and thought might be useful. I have just been out and fitted the dash cam and hard wired it in. I found the informatio...

Re: Front wheel arch blister

Thank you for the information. The car has a full history but not main agent, however I will have to look into which local bodyshops are VAG approved and see what they say, nothing ventured nothing gained i suppose! Bit disappointed at a car less than 8 yrs old is suffering rust like this though.

Front wheel arch blister

Good evening. Just noticed what appears to be a blister in the paint on the near side front wheel arch on my 2012 Passat estate which I suspect indicates the front wing is corroding through from the inside I have seen golfs with corrosion in this area but not the Passat? Are the passat prone to rust...

Re: Handling issues

I am very interested in this post, although I am unable to offer any help as my 2012 SE estate with 120K on the clock has started behaving in a similar way. I first noticed the problem a few months ago when on a motorway and thought it was a very windy day but noticed that the trees on the side of t...

Re: Alarm/tailgate problem

I had exactly the same problem with my 2012 Passat estate in November and I took the car to the local independent garage we use. He told me that the alarm can not be switched off by removing a fuse etc as it has its own internal battery to stop it being deactivated by a thief. He checked for fault c...

Re: Which fuse do I connect to for a dash cam, passat b8 se business edition.

Hi, I have a 2012 B7 passat so can not say which fuse you need. However I wired the power pack for my dash cam into an ignition live fuse and it works MOST of the time! However on ocassions the unit loses power which I believe is something to do with the canbus system on the car. My daughter recentl...

I fitted a towbar and seven way bypass relay to my estate about a year ago which I use for towing a caravan and all is working fine. I too initially had trouble locating the fog light feed. My daughter has a Seat Leon with auto wipers, I suspect the system will be similar to the passat. She had the windscreen changed recently and I was chatting to the fitter while he did the work. Re: Towing electrics

Fit a seven way bypass relay, one side of the relay connects to the vehicle lighting wiring and the otherside of the relay connects to the towbar wiring. The only extra you need is a 12v live to power the relay. These seven way bypass relays are designed to be used with canbus systems like used on t...

I use a local independent garage for service and repair work on my cars. While my car is over 3 yrs old and out of warranty, I do trust them to do the work correctly.
