Re: Airbag and gearbox warnings out of nowhere. Battery again?

If you do a search online there are a number of people doing clock spring repairs. Prices are around £100+ for a mail in, fix and return service or £150+ for an on-site fix. Worth doing some due diligence on the feedback and warranty information from the repairer. I thought of that, but I need the ...

Re: Airbag and gearbox warnings out of nowhere. Battery again?

Morning! Update - I took it to the local Halfords on sat and they did me a 10 point check (4 of those points are tyres :D ), battery is fine. He coded it to the car while he was on, so that's cool. However, while driving in I realised what the problem actually is - none of the buttons or paddles wor...

Re: Airbag and gearbox warnings out of nowhere. Battery again?

Coding an existing battery won't fix the issue as the capacity has been degraded since it was fitted. So your best route is getting a new one and coding it from there. Wether you go warranty, or through Tayna is up to you. I bought my Exide AGM from Tayna last year, cheapest i've seen for batteries...

Re: Airbag and gearbox warnings out of nowhere. Battery again?

Morning MrDerv, Battery needs coding to the car when it is replaced, otherwise it will never charge properly. And, if Halfords have not done this, there is a chance the previous battery may not have been an AGM and may still be programmed as an EFB which will cause issues when charging. A faulty/dyi...

Airbag and gearbox warnings out of nowhere. Battery again?

Hi folks, Long time no post for me, nice to see the place is still here. Car these days is a 2016 190GT DSG and I seem to have a lot of battery woes. Had the car since 2019 and all was well up to winter 2021 when the battery failed. Fair enough, it was the original. Got a new AGM stop/start from Hal...

Re: 2016 B8 outside temp gauge, DAB not working

Just thought I'd update with recent developments. A few weeks ago during a cold spell it suddenly decided that the outside temp was -24. Now it averages between -14 and -24 and I noticed the other day that the aircon no longer works. Could the two be linked? Car was in for a major service so I asked...

Re: 2016 B8 outside temp gauge, DAB not working

Interesting! I must make an effort to get that replaced before it starts getting wintery again. As luck (?) would have it the car needs to go in for a cambelt change at some point so I'll try and get the sensor swapped at the same time, assuming they need to take the bumper off to get at the engine....

2016 B8 outside temp gauge, DAB not working

Hi folks, Nice to see the place is still around! I posted about this first back almost 2 years ago to the day and have got used to the issues but as more is known about these cars now I thought I'd re-ask. Also covid, lockdowns and kidney disease have kept me away from things for nearly a year. All ...

Re: Discover Pro update

Bumping an old-ish thread but I've just done this after picking up my '16 190SCR GT last week. It came with an official VW Maps SDcard but as has been mentioned a few times here it's only 16GB whereas the Discover Pro update needs 26GB. The Infotainment website mentioned by @smillie121 does indeed p...

Re: 2016 B8 aerial oddity plus outside temp sensor.

Thanks for that! It tells me that it's not just a simple 'something is unplugged' problem unless like you say it's disconnected in the headlining. I found the GPS settings for the time so that's sorted but the temperature sensor is 5 degrees out which is odd. I'm up near the garage on Monday anyway ...

2016 B8 aerial oddity plus outside temp sensor.

Hello folks, After 4.5 years with my 2011 B7 I decided it was time to trade up and lucked out with a 2016 B8 190GT SCR DSG, those LED headlamps don't half light up the Fens! I know it's up to the garage I bought it from to sort this but it should be easy - the radio doesn't work in any mode which ma...

Re: aux in on a gamma

Well if anyone reading this fancies an AppRadio SPH-DA02 I'll put it out for £75 plus postage. It's boxed as new but the column of touchscreen that sets the hour in time setup didn't work when I removed it; this didn't bother me as I never looked at the time on it :D

Re: aux in on a gamma

Yeah, I should've sold the AppRadio as soon as I pulled it out. As usual tech has gone in leaps and bounds in the last 4.5 years so it's probably worth half what I paid for it. #-o

Re: aux in on a gamma

I was going to do this mod back then, then I read about the Panasonic AppRadio which was a twin-DIN extension to an iPhone that mirrored the phone screen and picked up messages etc. I ran that till I got rid of the car in Oct 2014 but still have the unit.

Re: B7 Estate rear indicators LED upgrade

Oh not a great fan of LED clusters on the b7. I have looked into putting LED bulbs into my brake light clusters on the rear of mine but wiring is of concern. I can have a look at mine if you like, see if VW designed their own solution or used a more 'standard' one. Pretty sure changing the indicato...

Re: B7 Estate rear indicators LED upgrade

Where did you get your LED brake lights from? Any wiring to do? I'm guessing his car has xenon headlights, which come with LED rear lights as part of the package. Correct, it's a SE with the swivelling xenon/rear LED lights pack and I hope I never have to replace a front unit again, fortunately the...

B7 Estate rear indicators LED upgrade

Hi folks, OSR Indicator bulb died today so I thought this is the ideal time for an LED upgrade for the indicators/reverse/fog plus interior. From postings here I can see Tahir1 does the interiors/headlamps etc but what about the rest? Car already has the LED DLRs and brake lights etc so any help app...

OBDII scanner (ELM327)

Folks, My AFS headlights in my 2011 Passat went south on me last week so they no longer follow bends or do their little dance on startup so I bought a bluetooth OBDII scanner thinking I could get the fault codes from VCDS-lite or Scanmaster. Doesn't work though, despite me forcing the COM port to be...

Sorted :D Had an early finish from work so I took the plunge; biggest problem was routing the USB and bluetooth mic cables. Pioneer SPH-DA02 AppRadio in a B5.5

Hi folks, Has anyone done this? It's basically a full screen touch radio that extends the iPhone4/4S into the dash, currently a snip at around £150. I see people over on passatworld have and it looks the dog's, but install seems a little tricky. I've just fitted a 3.5" socket as an aux-in than...

Re: aux in on a gamma

I did this mod last night after the cassette player died so I couldn't use my mp3 adapter any more, the ribbon cable from an old Apple disk drive was a perfect size once stripped. Hi folks, Long time no post for me, been busy with life changes again! Still running around in my ever faithful b5.5 though, it helped me move house last week :D These things are cavernous! Anyhoo, it's getting to that time of year again and I'm missing one sidelight so before I go buy another bulb ...
