Re: Winchester monthly meet
I won't be coming to this one again, as I am out of the country. I am sort of breaking my B5, (see ad in the breaking section) if anyone wants anything off it, it's just down the road from the car park where we meet up the top of town. CV joint, new wiper blades and side repeaters, £15 for the lot....

Re: Brake caliper bolt
The bolt I broke goes into those pins.
I have removed it from the caliper with some Plusgas, heat and some brute force.
Where is best to get replacement bolts from? They are serious bolts for their size.

Brake caliper bolt
I have managed to shear the head off one of my rear brake caliper bolts.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get the remains out?
It is a 1.9 B5 estate and I was going to change all the brakes as it failed the MOT on those pads and all the discs were advisory's.

Re: Winchester monthly meet
WOW, those look sweet, unfortunately I was thinking more of steel wheels.
I`m really just after some wheels with tires that will get me through the next MOT for less than the cost of 3 new tires. So about 100 quid tops really. Or some 195 65 15 tires.

Re: Winchester monthly meet
I will be able to make this, although my new passat won`t due to lack of MOT and insurance.
I don`t suppose though, that anyone going has got any wheels for a B5 for sale? My steels need 3 new tyres for the MOT.

Re: Jumpy start and bad on fuel
The car has had a head gasket and valve seals about 2 years ago, so hopefully they won't have given up already. 2 of the 4 spark plugs are now knackard, they aren't sparking out the tops. I'll have to get a new set, but don't want to ruin them like the old ones. Could any of this be to do with a fau...

Re: Jumpy start and bad on fuel
Thanks for all the info.
It turns out though that the plugs are actually covered with a mix of soot and fuel. We got the car started eventually and the smell of fuel was really noticeable.
What could cause such over fueling?

Re: Jumpy start and bad on fuel
After more poking around today, I have found I have oily plugs. This makes me think that the jumpy starting was from a blown head gasket or something pretty serious in the depths of the engine. If this is the case then it doesn't look good...

Re: Jumpy start and bad on fuel
You have a warm air ducting on your airbox, unless its been blanked, its there 4 cold starts Could someone explain this some more, how can I check if it's working, is it the flap in the air box, or could it be a leak in the pipe from that comes out of the back? I haven't been driving the car day to...

Re: b4 2.0 estate automatic fuel economy (1996)
I'm taking my B3 to Germany 2 weeks today. I did it last summer, with 5 people and the boot full to the roof. I drove about 65 and my mate nearer 85. Not a problem the whole trip, and like has been said, taking a paast to home is not going to be a problem if anything does go wrong. On the way home w...

I did buy a cheap mirror of ebay, but it doesn't fit. There is a collar on the back of them, on the ol...

Bad MPG was a vacum leak. One of the little rubber gromets tot the air box had perished.
Just need to sort the cold start problem now.

Jumpy start and bad on fuel
My 1.8 b3 has always bit a bit jumpy on start up from cold. I'm sure it's getting worse at the moment when it's been so cold everytime I start it for so long now. I pull away and if not not as gentle as possible it jumps like a learner driver. Once warm it seems fine, but sometimes I think it jumps ...

Re: Pasat b3 door handle - drivers door
What's the problem with the handle? Mine is a bit fiddly to use, but works OK. When I was trying to fix mine I found that there was meant to be a little white plasic sleeve over the part of the handle that pushes down on the mechanism to release the catch. These become brittle and break off. So I ha...
