Hi BCM,
Glad to hear you are having a go - please do post back on here and let us all know how you got on...
Thanks for the comment on the write up, good to hear it's been appreciated.
As for the camera, I can't remember which one I used - so it's either a 30D or a 5D MKII. Yes, it's overkill for ...

Hi Seanseansean,
Glad you liked the write-up - and glad you got the interface working - and just in time for Christmas too... an added little present to yourself!
All the best,
Treerat

Re: Howto: Fit an Aux in socket, using a Connects 2 interfa
Hi attila_tdi,
Thank you kindly!
As for the noise issue, the only noise I get is the sort I choose to put on! Seriously though, it's as clean a signal as I get from the MP3 player through headphones.
I'd suggest if there were any unwanted noise, it would be down to a mis-soldered lead. Take ...

Hi DSG4ME,
Why thank you! :esm I did consider putting the socket into the cupholder area, but to be honest, it's an awful lot more straightforward having it in the blank mounting slots - and I kinda like the look of the finished work anyway.

Re: Howto: Fit an Aux in socket, using a Connects 2 interfa
Hi Delsim,
On re-reading your email, I see you mention a Gamma on a B5 - is that the one with the tape player as standard? If so, is your CD player one of the multiplayers in the boot? Because if it is, then this option would probably NOT allow the continued use of that - sorry - my initial ...

Hi there Delsim,
Saw your email, but thought I'd answer on the main thread so all can see - yes, you absolutely can still use the CD player. It's just a case of toggling between the CD and the MP3 player by pressing the CD selector button.
So if you forget to grab your MP3 player before roaring ...

Re: Howto: Fit an Aux in socket, using a Connects 2 interface
Hi Tim,
Well, that sounds like a result! Yes, do keep us informed as to how it goes when you do the install - it would be great to see another Howto posted here for a more advanced interface.
Good find!
Cheers,
Treerat

Re: Howto: Fit an Aux in socket, using a Connects 2 interface
Hi Timon2210,
Sure, I can help - first, you need to check what sort of head unit you currently have in your 5.5 - as that's what determines the type of interface required. I believe in your case it's a Beta - let me know if that's not the case.
If you need specific advice on where to buy, I can ...

Re: Howto: Fit an Aux in socket, using a Connects 2 interface
Hi Lanzo,
Hmm, some good points there - perhaps I should have been a little more specific about the soldering of the socket - if people want additional pics etc, I can always do a piece on the soldering in detail.
And yes, you are quite right about the loose black earth cable needing to be ...

Hi Rstra,
First of all, thanks.. Secondly, yes, absolutely. The first one of these I did was indeed on a B5 - with a Gamma head unit, and as you say, the location of the wiring is somewhat different, although the wiring itself is pretty much identical.

Re: Howto: Fit an Aux in socket, using a Connects 2 interface
Hi flex786,
It's all bog standard - except the actual socket fitting!
As for whether it's possible to change the interior - I'd guess that it is, but you'd be best off asking some of the more skilled denizens of this Forum rather than me...
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Treerat

Re: Howto: Fit an Aux in socket, using a Connects 2 interface
Hi Choc,
Know what you mean about the confidence thing, but to be fair, there is nothing to it - the scariest bit is probably pulling off the fascia - and as long as you go steady, it really is straightforward.
This was only my second "mod" - the first being the same thing on my B5.
Go for it ...

Thanks guys....
Let me answer those questions in turn.
Steviebh , yes, you control the music from the mp3 player - well, the selection of what's playing, anyway. Volume is still done via the head unit, as you'd expect. So, get in the car, switch on the stereo, plug in the mp3 player, and then hit ...

Hi All,
OK, I've done the install, and the write up - and it's all posted here:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=28543
Hope it proves useful for anyone wanting a cheap solution to the lack of Aux in on the standard Passat models.
Cheers,
Treerat

Howto: Fit an Aux in socket, using a Connects 2 interface
This is a quick write up of my attempt to put in an MP3 interface - via a 3.5mm socket. I didn't want an iPod connector, as I don't have (or want) an iPod - plain vanilla 3.5 is best for me, as I can use it for my iRiver MP3 player, or indeed for connecting my phone to.
So, to summarise the problem ...

Re: 3.5mm socket?
Hi Guys,
In a similar position here - so, I'm gonna do what I did on my previous Passat (B5) and use one of the Connects 2 boxes.
Google "connects-ctvvgx004" (for a B6) and you should find one for a reasonable price - mine cost me about £32 delivered.
Haven't actually done the fit yet, can do a ...
