Re: Whats your mileage?

My addition to this list from 3 years ago seemed to get lost somewhere in the copy pasting. I'm now reinstating myself into b5.5 4th place. B3: 335,036 - VW Passat B3 '89 1.6td Beige Estate - Barnesy[/b] 214,400 - VW Passat B3 '92 2ltr 8v Estate - herbiematt 198,000 - VW Passat B3 '91 1.9 TDi Estate...

Re: Wipers not coming to a stop quite at the bottom.

All good info guys thanks. I've not had the issue of wipers continuing unstoppably yet. They still cover their full original range of sweep but it's like they bounce back up a bit from the bottom instead of coming to a stop there. I can picture that could be a motor 'coasting' on a bit - not sure ho...

Wipers not coming to a stop quite at the bottom.

My front wipers are being a bit odd.

They've started coming to their resting position an inch or three higher than they should, and a bit intermittently at that.

Anyone experienced this on their Passat?

Any ideas on cause and remedy?

Cheers

Re: Remove a turbo from a PD diesel

Cheers! Good video. Good info. With the time i had this morning I've just done the in situ bodge for now, but with wynn's turbo cleaner instead of mr muscle. Didn't foam up nearly as much but seems to have worked for now. I'll see about getting tooled up for the proper job, this summer probably :/

Re: Remove a turbo from a PD diesel

Yes but it'll be my 3rd or 4th go this time. It only seems to last a few thousand miles for me.

So I'm wondering about doing this full disassemble job.

Any idea on this 'balancing' thing?

Re: Remove a turbo from a PD diesel

I'm tempted to have a go at this. Spaying cleaner in with the turbo in situ seems to be having short lived effect.

But how's the reassembly? Some people are telling me not to do it because you've got to 'balance' your turbo afterwards. What does that mean and is it necessary as part of this job?

So I've added my " 206,590 - VW Passat B5.5`02 1.9TDI 130 SE Estate - pod495 " to the list below for posterity. Up to date milage as of today's arrival at work. Are any of the super high milages verified in any way? I could post a photo for what it's worth but i'm sure my 206k is beleivabl...

Central locking works but door wont open from inside or out?

I know there's a load of Door lock threads but most relate to the door lock mech going dodgy and central locking stopping working. I had that on the front doors and replaced the lock modules a few years ago which sorted it. Recently the back doors CL started playing up intermittently so I did the ri...

Re: Cleaning the turbo options (preventive maintenance)

I tried the Forte. I got a bottle of their turbo cleaner off ebay for about £13. When it arrived it said on the bottle that it should be used in conjunction with their engine treatment and that if the turbo was already problematic (as opposed to doing this as a preventitive measure) then two bottle...

Re: Electric Problems, got a feeling it will be expensive!!!

Replacing the door lock modules sorted out my central locking and interior light issues. I did try the 'taligentx' fix but just replaced them in the end. About 120 each from dealer, or risk a used one off eBay. I did have wet carpet too but I think I cleared my plenum and seLed my pollen before that...

loose vacuum hose?

Yesterday I noticed this loose end coming off a Y connector on what looks like a vaccum hose to me. Tha car generally runs fine, although I do seem to lose power assistance on my brakes sometimes if I've been coasting which i thought could be vacuum related. Anyway, does anyone know what, if anythin...

Great, so I'm not doing badly then. Thanks.

Is the cooler bit the hole in the middle at the bottom of the filter housing? I made a makeshift suction device to suck that out yesterday. Worked ok ish.

why can i never drain much oil?

Done an oil change today and as usual I was surprised at how little I managed to drain out. Less than 3.5L in the bucket (as measured on the old oil bottle I poured it into). I'll have refilled it with a bit more than that (i imagine because some got removed with the filter too) but still way less t...

Re: front passenger door wont unlock

From my experience of this my advice is to buy a new door lock mechanism. Top side of 100 quid but it beats faffing around trying to repair solder on a PCB I reckon unless you've got lots of time on your hands. Read the taligentx write up which is all about faulty lock Mech but like I say, I regrett...

Re: cabin filter housing seal

I did my pollen seal without removing the wiper scuttle bit. See my post in http://www.ukpassats.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9412&start=75 The seal off ebay should be OK and the foam gasket might have been, but I went for silicone type stuff. Flippin' plastercine or chewing gum would pro...

Re: glove box light

Easy to accidentally dissasemble, difficult to work out how to reassemble, fiddly to do if you can work it out, and not great to photograph (being small and semi transparent). This job really has everything doesn't it.

It's putting that extra twist on the spring that's the trick isn't it.

Re: engine oil

If I may add my own question to this topic regarding oil capacity:- When I do an oil change I seem to drain and re-fill less oil than I should. I did it yesterday and from the side of the bottle I put the dirty stuff in I'd aparently only drained about 3.5L and from the bottle I refilled from I only...

Re: Car locking itself

I tried the solder repair on the front drivers and passengers lock modules but wasn't that successful. Soldering didn't solve everything because the microswitch had gone on the drivers side (I could see that the little 'nipple' bit as mentioned above was broken - a weak and poor design) and an unuse...

Right. Thanks. I thought it was looking wrong.

They should indeed be able to get the parts right from my reg but it seems the managed to get both the oil and fuel filters wrong  . I'd done the oil before so I've swapped that already but i guess I'm off to the dealers again tomorrow.

Cheers.

Corrrect type of fuel filter for 2002 TDI?

The fuel filter under my bonnet looks just like this (pic borrowed form the how-to section):- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/colin__/P2030065.jpg But the dealer sold me a filter thats like a bigger version of the oil filter - a paper element to go in a housing. Is it right do you think? I'm ...

Re: Windscreen wiper removal

I managed to remove the battery with the wiper pannel on as per the guide posted above, but it wasn't easy. I damaged the pannel slightly trying to get the battery back in. With the plenum cleared I found that water was still getting in which I believe was due the the knackered pollen filter seal. B...

Re: Pollen Filter Confidential dealer documentation

Well I've managed to remove the filter housing without completely removing the wiper pannel bit. I removed the little corner plastic bit attached by the torx screw, got my fingers under the wiper pannel and pulled forward and up firmly and it unclipped at that end (without removing the wipers which ...
