Re: brake noise
I have a similar problem with my B3. I replaced discs and pads and still the chirping noise is there. Took it to my local VAG specialist for a general inspection and they had no idea. But they did tell me the wishbone bushes need replacing. The next day I was talking to a mate who suggested that if ...

Re: Where can i get power?
Yes I believe you would need a subframe and a donor would be the best bet as you usually get everything you need. I stand to be corrected but a Golf donor would be a cheeper and more plentiful option. I don't know if there are any mechanical differences as I am very new to B3/4s. Everything does see...

If anyone has a pick of a Knackered one I would be very interested to see it, as I may see if I can reinforce it

Re: Where can i get power?
It all depends how much work you are prepared to do? Vr6, G60 or 1.8t would physically fit with the right running gear. Vr6 and G60 would be easiest as they were used as standard. 1.8t would be more specialist parts but they are available for mk2 and 3 golfs so could be made to fit. The biggest hurd...

Not knocking your advice just something I have never done on any of the many rebulids/engine conversions on older cars.
I will certainly give it some thought thanks.

Re: What tools i need to disc/pads b3 front
Just done mine and raided the kitchen. Used a turkey baister to suck out brake fluid .
Only problem is I reckon I need to do the wheel bearings now as the constant squeek from the brakes had masked the rumble.

Must be the season. I'm doing mine tomorrow.
A liberal dose of brake cleaner to get rid of all the brake dust crud that has acumulated, and to de-grease the discs to as they will be coated to stop rust.

Hello from Lincolnshire
Hi all. I've been lurking for a while but thought its about time I introduced myself. After previously owning a b5 for a while, until blew a whole in the bottom end, I found myself totally carless for the first time in 23 years. Wanting to stay VW and being skint isn't an easy thing to do. So when I...
