Re: Water ingress through the doors.... ???

Poor water on your outside window, if water leaks through the seals between the panel and the door replace the seals

As for the door speakers, all I did was use a plastic bag and stuffed it behind the speakers.

Job done. bone dry :)

Re: Nearly lost my legs today - a warning!

I always use axle stands and stick the wheel under the sill just to be sure

A crunched sill is better than a crunched leg

Second above comment, although may be worth a fault code scan. You could have a duff speed sensor. That also causes lights to come on

Re: Dirvers door unlocking

Sorry if this has been posted and answere by others before me, Sometimes when i get to the car i'll press the fob and the indicators flash but the lock has not unlocked. Sometimes pressing it more than once will open it other times i have to put the key in the door and turn it before it unlocks. Do...

Re: Lost power... Like limp mode but not?

MAF I'm guessing

If the car drives at a constant ish speed all the way up to 80 it's the MAF or vachoses

If you can nail the car and drive really fast then it limps out probably hoses

Re: Lost power... Like limp mode but not?

Sounds a bit like MAF to me, try unplugging the maf and driving

If it doesn't feel like any change then your MAF is toast. Alternatively log the vagcom groups to measure maf output

Re: Using a B5 oil dipstick in a Golf MK5

Yeah,

I might just use some carb / electrical contact cleaner on it then wipe it like crazy just to make sure.

I hope it fits, the standard VW one in the golf is naf, it's really hard to tell if you've actually got oil in the car

Re: Using a B5 oil dipstick in a Golf MK5

Is it exactly the same length? Dunno, I know the obvious answer would be measure it but I hadn't thought about it at the time Providing it's the same length I don't see no reason why I can't use it and it would be a hell of a lot easier to read, although the only thing Im' unsure about is making su...

Re: no perm live for stereo?

Damn sounds like someone was really thinking of screwing you over in that car :/ Can you do anything by process of elimination like removing the lower trim panels on the drivers/passenger side of the car and trace some of the wires to termination points or predicted termination points and label them...

Using a B5 oil dipstick in a Golf MK5

I know this sounds simple and stupid, but I REALLY hate the dipsticks inside the MKV Golf I have The MK5 Golf has a dipstick with two round balls and it's black in colour, so it's really hard to read at times If it fits I thought about using my Passat dipstick, would this be OK If it's OK, what's th...

Re: Do you/should I charge for VCDS help? sorry little rant

It's better if people expect to pay money if they knew how much VCDS costs and compared to dealers, then you can choose to do it for free or not Usually forum members or family / friends, I'd do it for free, if it was andy random joebloggs they'd pay for it As mentioned, I bought the VCDS for me, do...

Re: no perm live for stereo?

Why not just see with where each wire goes to on the back of your existing head unit? Your existing head unit has the ISO connector for the wires, so backtrack from there. Work out which is the +ve and +12v for your existing headunit and where the terminal is on it then just work out the wire colour...

Re: expansion bottle overflowing exusive pressure in pipes

Could be the water pumps gone. When car is upto temperature stop, remove cap off bottle to release any pressure. Remove the small pipe from the coolant bottle and route into a 2L coke bottle or similar. Start the engine and rev to around 2000 RPM, you should have a good flow of coolant into the bot...

cheers
Main ignitor is under the drivers seat, sensors are in the side of the side (I think) footwell, bottom of B-pillar and underneath the carpet (under carpet is the main sensor itself)

Thanks Andy. Bought the one you recommended and fitted it earlier, could'nt be any easier. That will stop the reel jolting out (although ...

I need to replace the nearside CV joint on my 1998 B5 passat. After reading a lot of topics on online forums most say that you have to remove the abs senor otherwise it will get damaged. My question is how do you remove it, according to the haynes manual you undo a 10mm bolt and pull it off but min...

I'd like it if you could remotely activate your alarm

Lost your car? Just set the alarm off, dementia no longer an issue. Just listen for the alarm and look for the annoyed people

No one would dare steal your car then

If people complain just go these damn alarms are SOOOO sensitive :)
