which caliper on 2002 1.9tdi awx passat?
hi trying to get front pads for above mentioned car,factor says there are 2 types lucas and other,cant see anything on caliper, it definitely the one with the wear down wire,can anyone enlighten me please!ta

Have done it several times, just using an allan key that fits in an extension bar on a ratchet, never had any problems!cheers adam

k seal
head gasket on the way out back pressure blowing steam out overflow on expansion bottle.
am aware of some posts slagging k seal, in the respect it clogs up channels, and have also seen some rave reviews!
to be honest am stuck between a rock and a hard place simply havent got the money to re do head ...

hi karl ta for quick reply,will see what happens wen belt n pump done,be gutted if gasket away after that though.any idea if there a surefire way to see if gasket gone,vac com or anythin?cheers adam

hi all am just waiting to get waterpump timing belt done, am sure pump knackered as very little water going through return pipe.

does anyone know if this waterpump and pulleys will fit my 2002 130 awx engine?
my car was registered in Jan 2002,and the bits, which are nearly new, are from an awx 2003 model

can i jump in and ask if it shud be done with engine running?have been trying to bleed my system,as u described,pulling bak left hand hose,and raising expansion bottle,even blowing through,still got some air trapped,shud the engine be running,and circulating,to purge the air?!ta

just the fact u not gettin a scan reading makin me wary about sayin map,but i had same symptoms,changed the map gone!was a lucky strike,as u say cud be that,pipes,n75,maf,on and on.good luck,hope u get it first hit!

i had similar problems but it threw up a code for either over or under boost(cant remember which!)turned out to be the map sensor,not the maf, the map!which is located on top of the boost pipe,top of the engine,easy fix and cheap.have heard faulty maf sumtimes doesnt show.no wee independant garage ...

thank u all for advice will check return pipe once more,and watch for bubbles etc at higher revs.goin to do pump and timing belt regardless,any usefull tips for what to watch for,and special tools be appreciated,ta again,adam

hi chris, have bled the system, by removing the left hand pipe going into bulkhead which i assume is the heater return,and holding the expansion bottle higher up, till the water flows.is there anywhere else i should bleed?!
and yes water very hot in bottle,as i said there water occasionally coming ...

thanks dave,i reckon ive knackered it letting the system get so rusty.have never been sure the last guy who did the timing belt actually changed it at all,so this will push me into changing both it and the water pump.

hi dave,ta for response,had my son sit in car and take it up to 1800 revs took pipe off,a small stream came out,then stopped.guaranteed pump knackered??!!

ta for the reply,my real dillema is not the last letter,it the last number before it,have been offered a servo and master cylinder out of a 2002 6 speed avf model,its part number is exactly the same except the end number it ends 5J, and my 2002 5 speed awx engines servo finishes with 7J.
