Mine sounded like that just before the bottom end gave up, was cheaper to replace engine than rebuild, its very common on these engines

I used saddle soap on mine to clean them and then gliptone leather conditioner & they were like new.

I was very dubious with the saddle soap but gave it a whirl & I would highly recommend cleaning any leather seats with saddle soap the difference it makes is quite amazing.
