Thought I'd better show what replaced the trusty B5, if you've not guessed by the avatar it's still a VW: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/g60dubster/Posted%20pics/P1040068.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/g60dubster/Posted%20pics/P1040044.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/g...

Re: g60's passat OEM+ End of the Road
True, think this is the case with many cars of this age nowadays given the value of used motors, the parts are worth far more than the wholestylin wrote:sad to see it go....but like my ol' passat,it will help other passat owners enjoy their rides even more

Re: g60's passat OEM+ End of the Road
Cheers Ant, will try to keep in touch :) Simon, the original plan was to swap the interior, brakes, wheels and a few other bits and sell the car but it needs a few quid spending on it that I just cant justify given the value I'd get back :( Congratulations Dave, think the W8 will come out of hiding ...

B7 RS4 pedals were a direct fit into my dbw B5, think the fitment problems were with earlier cars with a cable throttle.

Re: g60's passat OEM+ End of the Road
Cheers guys, It was a hard decision but the car needs a full front end repaint after hitting some rogue wood on the motorway damaging both wings and putting some big chips in the bonnet, it's just not worth spending hundreds on it when it would only go for a grand or so.

Re: g60's passat OEM+ End of the Road
It's been an enjoyable and at times emotional 9 years but time has come for the passat to hang up its boots!! Due to an unexpected deal on the replacement and it not being worth spending money to sell it given the prices they go for, I've decided to break the passat  I will post a list of parts...

Re: Coolent temp and an other??
likely to be a faulty thermostat, or there's another temp sensor in the bottom hose from the radiator. This can also cause dodgy readings. I found that my thermostat was fine until I changed the water pump and the replacement stat was a bad fit. So stuck the old one in, car wouldn't reach 90 and wou...

Re: Oil pressure issue...clears after a smoke!
Don't forget the oil pressure sensor isn't active until the revs are over 2k, so pootling around at low revs won't trigger the warning but the oil pressure will be low. I'd get the pressure checked as it could be the sensor that's duff but the smoke does point to the oil seals on the turbo. Are you ...

Re: g60's passat OEM+ (Update pg3)
Cheers guys :) Spats, they're the std pulls with some stainless steel trims round them (got them years ago on ebay) I had the door panels done by Premier Cartrim in Warrington, I removed the centres from the door panels as they'd said that would be much easier for them to work on. They also asked me...

Re: color coding question
You need to use plasticiser & good plastic primer and adhesion promoter to ensure a lasting finish PLus using new parts make a big difference as the silicones in most blacking products can seep into the plastic and stop the paint bonding. Mine were done over 3 years ago and are still fine even t...

Re: Coilover query
the squeak is pretty common with TA's most sets do it. How low are you as the damper strut is pretty long for a coilover and you could be sat on the bump stops, this will make it very bouncy indeed. BUt bear in mind that at this sort of drop you'll be compressing the damper to almost 90% all the tim...

Nope, it isn't normal. But is very common, the original sender was notorious for giving poor readings so vw updated it with a newer spec one. The old one has a black body, the updated one is green

Which sensor did you change as the one you describe at the back of the head is the sensor that dual feeds the ECU and the temp gauge?

Re: Chinese turbos...
Many UK sellers are just buying in quantity and reselling the same cheap junk on ebay. Get a decent one, although unlikely to grenade totally, if it does it could do a lot more damage than you saved in buying a cheap turbo. Diesel guys, never skip on a cheapo, if the oil seals go, you lunch the whol...
