I'm getting somewhere, I believe it is to do with the oil level sensor control unit for electro- mechanical steering gear. Gonna pop down to my local vw garage and ask them what they think. If it's not causing a problem for now then perhaps it will be fine

After some more digging I think it may be associated with the Servotronic system. But then does the b6 engine have this electronic power steering? And if so, if it is this that is unplugged then wouldn't I experience something for concern when driving ?

Not too familiar with the B6 , any soft fault codes ? What engine have you ? Hi @Gazwould, it's a 1.9 diesel TDI sport. When you say soft fault codes what do you mean? I haven't got any dash lights showing, but haven't plugged it in to the OBD2. I'm worried to plug it in I case I mess something up....
