Re: Badges

Only thing about that amazon link is the colouring. From my B5 days I know the silver TDi was 90bhp, the red i meant 110bhp and the red Di was 150bhp. I think the same was carried into the 5.5 and onwards being silver was base power, red I was next up and the Di meant third up in range. (My 170bhp B...

Thanks for the reply and the link Shane.
My jets are different from the video but it’s the same method so I’ll be able to try and unblock it now.

Thanks again!

Washer jets

Anyone any idea of how to access the washer jets on a b6? They seem to be under the bonnet meaning you can’t get to them with the bonnet closed but with the bonnet open they seem out of reach!! I seem to have a blocked jet on the drivers side and it’s one of those “bug the hell out of you” niggly th...

Re: OBD Scan tool

When I had my ‘99 B5 I did a fair amount of motorway driving and at one point I was getting constant puddles on my passenger side front floor. Car was a UK spec 1.9TDi 110bhp with climatronic aircon. Couldn’t find out the issue and spoke to a dealership mechanic who told me about the aircon drain be...

As a resident of Glasgow which has the only active LEZ IN Scotland and a taxi driver with a vested interest in what’s happening here’s a few points: First off Aberdeen doesn’t go live til next year, so unless you were intending to change (I’m assuming not from you’re description) then I’d hold off. ...

Re: Saucepan Like Noise

Dependant on the noise it’s difficult to say but if it’s like a cymbal crash type noise then maybe one of the exhaust heat shields has come loose and when you’re going over bumps it’s literally like hitting a cymbal! Would also help with your theory the exhaust is involved, and if it is the shield i...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

My car runs ok with the compressor belt still in place but the compressor itself doesn’t engage. From this thread, maclees sterling advice and what I’ve read elsewhere that’s either caused by a faulty compressor or more likely this little valve not operating. Due to the weather this week I haven’t g...

Re: WANTED: Parts needed for sprung load cover on 1999 Wagon.

I was going to suggest finding a 3D printing company and ask if they could manufacture but usually it’s cost prohibitive.

I have a printer but can’t work with CAD software or design items, I do wish I could.

Glad to see you got a fix in the end

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

And oddly enough just done a search on AliExpress to see how much a spare solenoid would be (just in case) and the part numbers are listed for the compressors, which mine apparently is a PXE14!

(5N0 820 803)

Part numbers beginning 1K0 are the pxe16

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

They were lubed maclee but I think the final tap on is a plastic collar halfway down the valve, think it must go over an internal rib to help hold it in place. As to the length issue I have had a look at the old one and realised the problem with it is that mine is in the retracted position and that’...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

Yep to both questions, circlip refitting was one of the hardest parts and for access had to pull the radiator fans (again) The new valve was slightly longer than the original but did fit into the compressor as expected including the tap in with the socket. Have to stress that the description mention...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

Thanks Mitch. The one ordered listed compatible with pxe16,13 and 14 so thought I should be ok. Very awkward to fit in situ and had to remove radiator fans again and it wouldn’t go that last few mm to get the circlip back on and had to use a small socket on the back of it and tap it home. There was ...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

That is worth knowing to anyone who needs to change that switch... a nice money saver. Hopefully the compressor solenoid will be just as easy. The pressure switch was literally hand tight plus a half turn “nip up” so once you get the initial turn you can pull the spanner out and turn it out by hand...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

Thanks again guys. That label looks exactly like mine maclee, and you’re right about the access, unless I drop the compressor the model number corner is the only bit I can’t get to. Might try my inspection mirror but not hopeful. All the solenoids I’ve found state pxe16 but a few listings state fits...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

So, now the pressure switch has been replaced but the compressor is still not kicking in. Thanks to one of the videos you posted Maclee I knew the pressure readings that would indicate the valve on the compressor at fault (reading 80 to 90 and not around 50 for a working unit) As you can tell my rea...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

I have the temp display enabled as part of my “normal” dash cluster and for this last few weeks it’s been anywhere between 20 and 29 degrees, and it’s set to Celsius. I was aware the system needs a drain and refill and is why I was waiting for the aircon guy again before trying to pull out the exist...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

Yeah that was my thought too and you’re right it’s 600g as per the landing panel label, but the guy testing it was sure there was enough pressure to have triggered the switch and that’s why he said that was the likely issue. As it’s a cheap enough part I don’t mind changing it and he did have one fo...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

Thanks again maclee. I’ll have a look at those videos as that was quite confusing to follow (although I’m sure like everything else as you go logically through it you understand it easier!) There is some refrigerant in the system but not a full charge as that was the next step, but when the AC was s...

Part number is 5N0 820 803 and the brand appears to be Sanden?

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

It’s been raining here today so not had a look yet but to the refrigerant type it’s definitely R134A.

I knew that before starting any of the work but it’s confirmed by the sticker on the landing panel/lock carrier panel.

Will post back if and when I manage to find out the compressor type

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

Thanks again maclee. Yes the vacuum held so it appears the leaks are finally sealed! Never knew any of this about the compressor and was told the Passat unit needed a pressurised system to operate, and if it didn’t have any pressure it would just spin and the clutch wouldn’t engage. Now I’ve read yo...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

Thanks again maclee, getting there but still not working yet! The O ring for reference was £5.68 from my local VW dealership which is cheaper than they are being flogged on eBay!! On the plus side there are now no leaks and it vacuumed out great but now have a fault that’s stopping the compressor ki...

Engine bay fuse box diagram?

Does anyone have the above for a 2010 B6 highline? My Haynes manual doesn’t seem to tie in with the fuse box on the passenger side of the engine bay. This is ongoing from my aircon threads which maclee has been of massive help with part numbers. Now it looks like either a faulty pressure switch, fau...

Re: My aircon, the continuing saga!

Thanks again maclee, you have no idea how much this is appreciated. Only two joints now parted, 1 of them is the required O ring, the other joint is the second pipe to the compressor. Although it was fine I think I’m going to change that O ring too as it’s a right headache to get to (currently have ...

Re: Part no: 3CO 820 741 AJ help

Hi again Maclee. Any idea of the part number for number 49 in that diagram? It’s the compressor side O ring for the pipe numbered 6 (ending 741 AJ) We did the dye test twice and it wouldn’t show up as expected, but there was a little speckling in the area of this connection. Not taking that as indic...
