Weird question to ask, But here goes. Thanks every1 for your help..... after trying 2 or 3 times to crank over with no luck, i attached a piece of clear hose to the supply pipe at the filter and sucked about a litre of diesel out. Reattached pipe, and it fired up straight away...... Lesson Learned !!!!

So even though the filter is full, by turning ignition on and off repeatedly will still push fuel beyond the filter to the injectors............ sorry to sound like a numpty, just thought that by cranking the engine in short bursts would do that ??

Having fitted new fuel filter, to my 04 130 avf.... filled new filter with wot thought was sufficient fuel re-connected pipes and new back/blue o rings, on start up engine started and died, now will not restart, anybody out there with any ideas would be much appreciated........ I have done this job ...

Thanks maclee, that`s probably what i was expecting to hear, i recently had a rear lock fail so i will get the part and book it in with my local veedub specialist. Thanks again m8 !!

Left my lights on this morning, ( 2004 1.9 sport est 130bhp ) when i came back to it to go home 9 hrs later ...... flat battery, there was no bleeping with key out of ignition to say i had left my lights on, and no puddle light on. I have read some where that it could be due to a faulty micro switch...

Ijust did mine today & had the same problem,haynes manual says to use an oil filter strap which i happened to have from my mk1 golf days......and low and behold off she came.

would just like to say THANKYOU to all who tried to help with this link,It appears that the fault has been rectified by indeed fitting a 219 ECU relay, it has been a week+ with no issues ( so far....fingers crossed it stays that way ) it is a godsend for forums like this with likeminded vw enthusias...

Hi Dave, my mistake.....diagram in the haynes calls it an "actuator", picture i found when googled calls it an "anti shudder valve" so yes.......when the engine is running and i press it in the engine cuts out ??? assume that is normal practice.
