Re: TDi130 or V6TDI??

Which will be less able to protect the engine after 25k or 2 years... You believe what you want but i would not trust dealer with washing me car let alone working on it ! Ok, this is now venturing into the world of non-impartial opinion. Certainly you should choose your dealer wisely just as you sh...

Re: TDi130 or V6TDI??

No reply on that last question? So I'm going to assume that long-life servicing using synthetic oils that are to spec does not destroy the camshaft in PD engines.. In any engine, if you are foolish (or cheap) enough to use the incorrect grade of oil you deserves the damages you causes.. Cost of prop...

Re: TDi130 or V6TDI??

Take the rocker cover off your "new" car and check the camshaft lobes very carefully while turning the engine by hand or rocking back and forth in a high gear ! If there is ANY scoring/marks ask for a genuine replacement cam to be fitted at a vw specialist. The hardening on the cams is on...

Re: Premium diesel vs. the normal stuff?

Cheers guys.. It actually seems doing the "theoretical" input of figures on the fuel economy calculator thing that a tank of V-Power diesel would end up costing a couple of pounds less than "normal stuff". You are what you eat so guess I'll stick with premium fuels - most likely ...

Premium diesel vs. the normal stuff?

Hi all, Just wondering what fuels you guys are using particularly with PD 130's. The Passat will be my first diesel. Current car is an 05 Cooper S & I've always run that on V-Power where possible, def noticed a difference in feel of the engine & economy when forced on road-trips a few times ...

Re: Gear Box Oil Change

The oil i have drained off me audi's was nothing like that but a slyghtly darker hue than the one that went in. It was however thicker than the stuff dealer supplied me with ! As i said, i wont bother with changing the oil in MY cars unless there are difficult to select gears... I have done dozens ...

Re: Gear Box Oil Change

got my 170,000 mile old "lifetime" gearbox oil drained in my old Passat and replaced with the exact spec as reccomended by VW dealers. Either way a new gear box is £2000, a refurb £500, or a rebuild £600. A refurb doesn't even gaurentee other syncro's/gears won't play up. So for less t...

Re: TDi130 or V6TDI??

Also the PD engines are very demanding on their oils and Longlife Service Intervals are a big No-no wich will result in worn cams.... Mmmmm, can you please add some justification to the above statement? There are lots of very high mileage PD 130's on the other thread that you were pointed to & ...

Re: 4motion - additional running costs?

Totally agree with you and I never run different makes/models of tyre, they are also replaced once they hit 3mm. Looking into tyres for the 4motion I'm considering the new Vredestein Quatrac 3, it's an all season tyre with the snowflake symbol so legal for winter use in countries such as Germany etc...

Re: 4motion - additional running costs?

Hi all.. The 4motion is full time dynamic 4WD and it can dedicate most of the power to 1 wheel if it deems it necessary according to all the research I've been doing. Having now driven several Highlines, Sports & the 4motion - all PD130's with 50K - 80K & FVWSH (so assuming the engines are i...

Re: 4motion - additional running costs?

You worry too much, dont fix if it's not broken ! Diff oil is a good ideea but i found that unless the diff seals leak, the level should be ok. The same with gearbox fluid- at 150k the oil was still nice and clear just a bit thicker than the replacement. For peace of mind replace box and diff fluid...

4motion - additional running costs?

Hi all, As per my previous post looking at an 03 TDI 130 4motion Sport estate. 79k, FVWSH, 2 private owners - it's immaculate, original paint, never smoked in etc. It's black which is my preferred colour and the overall look of the car in this colour is just lovely, completely the "stealth"...

Few more pre-purchase questions - lights, stereo, cruise etc

Hi all, I'm still looking for a Passat Estate but am narrowing down my choices, having done lots a looking and reading, effectively now either a Highline or Sport TDI 1.9 130 on an 03-05 plate with no more than 80k, FVWSH and private ownership. Looking to purchase at the top of the market so Highlin...

Re: TDI 100 & 130 - just the mapping or different engine?

Sorry but by adding the ?'s are you saying "yes" or you just think it might be the case. It's not uncommon for a manufacturer to release the same engine in different guises - they are both 1.9 TDI's why I'm wondering would VW go to the expense of a completely different turbo, fuel pump and...

Any B6 owners who upgraded from a 5.5?

Hi all, Currently looking at Passat estates B5.5 04 - 55 plate. Seems all the good ones, sport or Highline TDI 130 with full history and low miles (60k) are currently pulling well above book, around £6900ish and for that money an 06-56 B6 that has been a fleet vehicle with 100k motorway miles and o...

Any 5.5 owners not having water ingress nightmares?

HI all, Currently looking at 5.5 Passats and have been looking through this forum and at the web re info. Seems they are generally great, reliable vehicles - however there does seem to be a lot of info in regards to all sorts of water ingress............sounds like a right pita. Generally are people...

TDI 100 & 130 - just the mapping or different engine?

HI all, Still looking at 5.5 Passat Estates and have settled on either Highline or Sport 04 - 55 plate, looking to get the best car possible so prepared to compromise on spec and colour. Have been also considering a re-map for the added fuel economy and reported smoothness. Ideally looking for the T...

Cheers.. I really do like the look of that car - being a bit of a detailing enthusiast (as I am) you learn to spot the tell-tale signs of a car that has been cherished by it's owner not just scrubbed up for sale and that appears to be a well loved and unmolested example.......is in the middle of fli...

New Member - HI - TDI Estate, should I buy 5.5 or 6??

Hi all.. Time has come to sell my beloved, v high spec & mint 05 Cooper S... To be honest it's been a fun ride but both size and economy have become serious issues, looking forward to seeing it go actually. I now essentially need a really good estate for my self-employed business and having alwa...
