Before you go and change the pump have a good look at the vacuum pipe between the pump and the servo. One tiny split in that and the braking efficiency would be as described. I've seen it on a MK4 Golf. Worth a gander I reakon.

Re: Rear door
This sounds like yet another central locking actuator fault. Search ebay for a suitable replacement...about £20-£25. Change it and your problems should be over. However, you may want to have it checked with with a vagcom diagnostic tool first just to confirm the fault.

Re: TDI 130 running cold. fault or not....?
Hi Mark..you really need to get the car on somesort of diagnostic to find out the brake fault. A probable cause could be the brake switch...a rather simple and somewhat inexpensive repair. £13 and 20mins of your time. The coolant issue is most likely the thermostat stuck in the open position or the...

They're not all the same at all. Go for Bosch Duratherm but get them from an authorised bosch dealer. They should have a hologram on the side of the box to show they are the real thing. Beware of purchasing from ebay! The last thing you want is a chinese copy.

Re: B5.5 roof rack which one ??
I bought mine for my B5 from halfords. It's a sandard multi vehicle and multi adjustable one. Make sure it has the rubber feet which sit in the rain channels. The roof panel on the 5.5 didn't change with the face lift so it fits straight on.

Could be the fuel filter. Deffo worth changing that if it's not been done for a while.

My advise would be to remove every turbo hose and inspect them carefully before refitting. I had a problem on my B5 a few years ago....same symptoms as you have and eventually found a split on the underside of the hose just before the turbo.

Re: Just put a hose pipe onto the screen after
It could be your problem. Try being more gentle and more direct with your water testing. Use a watering can instead of a hose and gently pour around the base of the pollen filter and check inside the cabin for leaks.

Re: Indicators now have a mind of their own!!
I think that's pretty shocking. To be told that in order to complete the job we'll have to snap the scuttle is a dreadful. Can't believe they couldn't get the wipers off. There are tools for that...ie a wiper arm puller. ah well. Try being a bit more gentle with the water flow around the pollen filt...

Is it trying to unlock...ie can you hear the electrics clicking. If so..try to pull the door lever (internal) while at the same time operating the central locking switch on the drivers door control panel. Worked for me. I then replaced the whole door lock actuator with an ebay special for £21

Thyanks for the PM but as I say it's the distance...I'm in Leicester. Re: Indicators now have a mind of their own!!
Shame you're so far away. The leak from the pollen filter housing is an easy fix. Plenty of silicon required there and it's done. The indicator issue is most likely the hazard light switch which shares the same circuit/relays as the indicators. Replacement part is about £10 off the bay of E Turbo r...

Have a look in the spare wheel well. You should find a big sticker in there with a load of numbers and letters. The engine code will be one one of them.

Re: B5 and b5.5 seats and door cards interchangeable?
I changed the seat in my B5 as the bolster was worn and the air bag plug was different on the newer seat. The wiring colours were the same iirc. I snipped the plug off and used a block connector to re-attach.

Your engine problem could be something as simple as a fuel filter. Worth changing I reckon.

Re: Off side rear door stuck
Are you getting a signal at the door.ie is there an electronic buzz where the actuator is trying to lift the button. If there is then try to operate the internal central locking switch at the drivers door while simultaneously pulling the handle on the offending door.
