Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

T45 six point spline for the backing plate of throwout bearing. I had ordered another seal which thought I needed but can only see O-ring on back of Throwout Bearing. Is this only doing the job of stopping oil getting through. Anyone know? Cheers - sorted seal now. Can see on back of old bearing.

Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

Today's progress. Got flywheel out. Just managed to squeeze in my half inch impact wrench as pushed the gearbox back as far as possible. Bolts were tight and took several attempts on gun to get out. Thought may have had to get blow torch on them. Ran out of wd40 too! Clutch plate nearly down to rive...

Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

Thanks for reply. A few other questions are when putting gear linkage back together, should I leave the shaft all the way out or in? Trying to picture what is happening there and if it matters. Left Gearstick in neutral. Also when I put bell housing back together, do I slot Starter Motor back in as ...

Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

I noticed with gearbox now detached, the engine tilts slightly down at the back. Is this normal and should I correct tilt when putting gearbox back on? Maybe a wedge somewhere to raise engine back up etc. Cheers.

Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

Pays to line up transmission jack correctly. Did not pay attention and was hitting exhaust when pulling back. Managed to drop gearbox though but car is not high enough at all........maybe change throwout bearing under car and clean up. Ideally wanted to drag out gearbox so thinking about getting hig...

Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

Today's updates. Top 8mm hex bit bolts left gearbox mount got from topside. Careful where you put ratchet straps in case then cover gearbox mount bolts. Had to remove heatshield over RHS gearbox rubber mount as was difficult to get mount out. Was a pain that one! And careful to make sure the bolt yo...

Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

More pics to help anyone who attempts this. The top 8mm hex bit bolt on the RHS gearbox mount was a pain. Used the 'cut off allen bit in rachet' suggestion with a swan neck spanner for leverage. Got from below. Finger twisted out after. Other pic shows spanner on top bolt of mount with nut underneat...

Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

More progress. Swan neck 16mm worked for me on bolts under bell housing, then finger twist out. Left them in just enough when putting back together.

Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

Few more pics. Managed to get a breaker bar on some which helped then ratchet them out and be careful as per guide as lots hoses around. Swivel extension helped on some. So far done four bolts from topside. There was another which managed to reach from under over right driveshaft. Then took one star...

Done it. Once fully unscrewed really pull out rest of way. M10 is cap head bolt. Kind of turn selector rod with shaft in and should detach. Cheers

Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

Having a nightmare on gearbox linkages......should linkage be able to slide to left on the bolt or all one piece? Rachet wedged into side tunnel and not much play to get rachet off. Tried to lever the linkage to slide along the bolt but stuck. Cheers. Might hacksaw the bolt as last result to free ev...

Re: Stuck bumper bolt removal

Thanks. What better drill bits are better than HSS Cobalt? Also if I can whack the head off the bolt or dremel it off, the bumper bar would pull off and just leave bolt shaft in? Just make do with two bolts fixing in bumper if know what I mean. Cheers.

Re: Quoted 1k for Clutch and DMF so its DIY!

Thanks for all the replies. I was planning on using four axle stands on the front as high as possible. Tyres underneath as backup as well as trolley jack. I see in the On Yer Back thread, did someone have axle stands on back too? Does this make it any easier or just raise front? Cheers. Getting tran...
