Re: How does this work then?

Thats ya thermostat in the second picture, it heats up and opens to let the coolant into the engine, it just pulls out might as well change it while your there, not an expensive part.

Re: Coolant leak near drain valve

Thanks for response. Going to be fun to remove bumper bar as went to remove before, stripped a bolt and gave up lol. Yea been there not a easy job, I managed to get the stripped bolt started from the other side with a stud extractor, there was about 5mm to get a hold of, plenty of plus gas and swea...

Re: Coolant leak near drain valve

Probably new rad, they are well known for minor leaks on the edges and you'll have to remove it to check it anyway.

Re: Head gasket dilemma

K seal got to be worth a punt. Might give you 2 or 3 years. Not a massive expenses if it doesn't work. This is definitely an option although what I've read about it seems it works better for leaks between oil and coolant than gas and coolant as the pressure keeps the liquid from getting into the ga...

Re: Head gasket dilemma

I would say it's a head gasket. I had excessive pressure in cooling system for over 4 years and then it started to get cold air from heater etc. Never lost any coolant, just really bad pressure and then airlocks. Hoses were still partly pressurised in next morning after driving and been left overni...

Head gasket dilemma

Hi all. 2000 1.9tdi ATJ 185,000m I'm 99% sure my head gasket has gone. High pressure in the coolant system and slight loss of coolant, made worse if you drive it harder, no leaks other than the coolant tank overflow when pressurised. Doesn't overheat. Diy sniff test showed gas the first time but not...

Re: Methods for raising sump/engine

Hi, I'm running eibachs with bilstein b4s and 18" alloys I don't have any problem with most speed bumps except the real nasty ones then I just go steady.

My fmic pipe is the lowest thing under there and that's only had a couple of slight grazes [emoji849]

Re: Panel filter problems

Long before MAF sensors existed it occurred to me that 'performance' air filters, that provide a less restricted flow, realistically can only do so by having a large size of 'net', to allow more air through, and that surely that means the filtration must allow through particles that would otherwise...

Re: Panel filter problems

Is that a filter that you have to oil? If so, I would have nothing to do with it because the oil mist, carried from it by the airflow, will form a deposit on the MAF sensor, likely causing your problem. If not, I would still change to a paper filter and see if that cures your problem, (a cheap enou...

Panel filter problems

Hi all, I've been using a pipercross panel filter for about a year and have noticed my maf sensor (bosch) gets dirty quite quickly, needs cleaning then replacing after a few cleans. Has anyone else had this problem, should I just go back to paper ones?
Cheers

Re: Not good vibrations

If vibration goes away when it's on jack stands, and comes back when on wheels, it makes me think there's something to do with driveshafts. As you lift the car, wheels drop down and distance from wheel hub to gearbox increases. What you drop it on wheels, driveshafts goes to about horizontal positi...

Re: Not good vibrations

My vibration come and goes, from very mild to quite severe. Noticed at the weekend when I opened the bonnet, there was quite alot of lateral movement on the engine. The hoses on bulkhead were shaking quite bad, this can be obviously felt inside the car, if the ns window is open slightly it rattles....

I did my alternator clutch about a year ago and replaced all belts and pulleys last year. I'm gonna give the driveshafts a check as mentioned by ray112

Re: Not good vibrations

So I've reset all the mounts again just to make sure. The vibration goes away all the time it's on jack stands, as soon as its lowered back down the vibration comes back but more from the steering wheel now. It is worse at idle and high revs but is there throughout the rev range All of the suspensi...

Re: Not good vibrations

Update. Got 2 second hand mounts and brackets with the correct part numbers swapped them over and the vibration is less, not a great deal but much better especially when the car is warmed up. Hooray! The new mounts I installed were not the make I ordered, they were sent as a replacement which I neve...

Re: Not good vibrations

So I'm going to order some new mounts as I'm sure the quality or fit of the ones I've got are the cause of my problems but I don't know which part numbers I need. Can someone please explain which ones I would get from the online diagram as there is a choice of 2 for 1 side and 3 for the other. eBay,...

Re: 1BA to Eibach Pro-Kit conversion / suspension overhaul

Thanks for the feedback, that's a beautiful wagon! Great to hear the SKV arms are working well. I think the drop is good, looks sporty without going over the top or attracting too much attention. Did you have any issues with the front alignment after lowering? Thanks, yes I took it for a proper las...

Re: 1BA to Eibach Pro-Kit conversion / suspension overhaul

Hi I've used a set of skv arms with no problems yet and 25000 miles. Also running the eibach/ B4 set up with no ground clearance issues although I have a solid 4motion arb with poly bushes which tightens up the steering, but all this and running on 18"s with 235/40's the ride is a little hard o...

I changed my mounts with Febi Bilstein units and I'm experiencing the same vibration, like when on a bus, the windows vibrate! The old mounts were completely shot. Hoping for an answer soon. Hopefully rules out the mounts themselves then, so it's either the installation or the new mounts have highl...

Not good vibrations

Hi all, I posted a month ago about fitting a new clutch, but that had to be binned off for a bit due to more pressing matters. While investigating my all over vibration whilst accelerating which I had down as oil on the clutch as my rear oil seal is leaking I found that one of my driveshafts were sh...

Cambelt problem audi a3

Hi all posted this on a couple of forums trying to get some info. Friend of mine has a 07 audi a3 2.0tdi, he was driving uphill at 20mph when the idler pulley bolt snapped in the block chucking out smoke and stopped, the pulley has smashed through the casing. Now I think its fooked by what he says a...
