Lower Grill replacement.

About a month ago I suffered a bird strike. The female pheasant destroyed the lower grill but luckily did not damage the condensor. There are few videos online showing how to remove the bumper but non showing how to replace the lower grill. So I thought I would share my experiences. 1. Remove the fr...

Front bumper removal

Car decided to have a pheasant for tea last night smashing the centre grill section. Luckily, it seems this is the only damage. Has anyone removed their front bumper recently which I will need to do replace the grill. If so do you have any tips or pointers. I guess I remove the upper grill first the...

Re: Tyre choices B8 GT

4 x Rainsport 5's fitted in Darlington this morning for £460, Thanks for the info on Tyre Spot, £100 cheaper than black circles for 4 tyres and friendly and helpful. They seem to be busy as they opened at 8.30 and people had been queuing since 7.40am. Initial impressions on the tyres seem fine but I...

Thanks for that. I am only 35 mins from Darlington so that could work out. These uniroyals have always been great in the wet but have they improved the wear rate?

Re: Tyre choices B8 GT

I've just replaced my old Continentals on the front with Uniroyal Rainsport 5. £115 a corner inc fitting/balancing I had these on my old B7 and they were fantastic, so i've decided to go with them again. Once the rears go, i'll be going for Rainsports on the back too. That's a decent price for I as...

I think you just answered your own question! Ring the main dealer and get the part no. and price. More often than not the price of parts are reasonable but it is the labour to fit that is expensive.

Anyone know how to clean the Panoramic Roof drain holes?

As the title says, I am just looking to do some preventative maintenance. I have lifted the windscreen scuttle but don't see any spider traps to remove like on the Tiguan. I also had a very quick look underneath the rear and could not see any there either but the car is filthy. No leaks yet but want...

Re: Multiple Warning Messages but what is the fault ?

Hi, the similarities are amazing. My 2015 Passat 2.0L TDI ,150 bhp .the only difference is mine is Automatic estate but all symptoms and their progression are the same. Mine is now in the VW dealers and they have rang me to say the external temperature sensor needs replacing so I have told them to ...

Re: Airbag and gearbox warnings out of nowhere. Battery again?

Morning! Update - I took it to the local Halfords on sat and they did me a 10 point check (4 of those points are tyres :D ), battery is fine. He coded it to the car while he was on, so that's cool. However, while driving in I realised what the problem actually is - none of the buttons or paddles wo...

Re: Michelin Primacy 4 "Volvo" Tyres Compatability

How do you find the wear rate on your premacy 4 tyres? I have had older versions on an (albeit lighter) ford focus and got 40,000+ miles out of set but will be lucky to get 25,000 miles on the our Passat without a heavy right foot.

Re: Tyre pressure system error

I have scanned the car with OBDeleven and I got the following code; C1246F0; Tyre pressure monitoring display not available. I then ran a live data test on the ABS sensors and went for a short drive. All four sensors reported the same speed but both fronts gave "invalid" messages for both ...

Looking for any suggestions on troubleshooting the tyre pressure monitoring system please. I checked the pressures and inflated them ...

Re: Service reset virtual dashboard?

Ok progress made. I managed to reset the oil service by holding the trip reset and pressing the start button. I think I had the door open which maybe was why it didnt work earlier. This method did not reset the inspection service warning. I had to use OBDeleven to reset the inspection warning. From ...

Service reset virtual dashboard?

Anyone know how to reset the oil and inspection alerts. Car has the virtual dash. Holding the trip as per manual does not work. Neither does bringing up the range menu on driving data and holding the OK button for 5 seconds on the wheel like in YouTube videos. There must be an in car way of doing th...

Re: OBD port not responding

A lot of the OBD dongles need an adapter as the port is quite recessed. This is the case with OBDELEVEN. I have seen some dashboards that have been butchered just to access the OBD port when an £3 adapter was all they needed.

Ok, so I have now changed the steering wheel and I'm very happy with it! Here's a photo: IMG_1028.jpg In case someone else is interested in doing the same, here is a short write up of how I did it: 1) To get the wheel I wanted I used a company called www.royalsteeringwheels.com who take stock wheel...

If you are changing the rear discs and pads, check that the Mechanic has the necessary gear to put the Electronic parking brake into service mode. He will need access to VCDS, OBDeleven or similar to rewind the EPB pistons and then reset them.

Re: Over 1000 Miles Left

I think there are some slight differences in tank sizes but its around 65-65 litres. I suspect that like most manufactures VW build in an "idiots margin" and when it gets to zero you can get at least another 25-30 miles. Likewise if you brim the tank (ignoring the safety airgap) on some ca...

Re: Over 1000 Miles Left

Good luck with achieving that. Technically possibly on a test track at a constant 56mpg but unlikely in the real world unless you are a master hypermiler. I once got to 808 miles with about 15 remaining in mixed use. 1044 miles from a 65 litre tank is approx 72 mpg and not impossible. i have seen 85...

Re: Steering wheel upgrade options?

No it's because you are probably that 1 person in a 100,000 that has thought I want a steering wheel upgrade AND actually done it! Most people are happy with their steering wheel and of those who are not, most would be put off by removing trim, unplugging airbags, electrics, sensors and a fear of ba...

I decided to bite the bullet........ I removed the coolant from the tank and then removed the tank itself. Next I used a long flat bladed screwdriver to ease the silica bag past the two plastic tabs into the centre of the tank. Then I removed it using pliers then thumb and forefinger. Coolant tank r...
