My 2012 Passat has a camera below the bumper and a screen but the two do not appear to be linked. Any simple way to connect?

My 2012 Passat Estate has a reversing camera but no picture when I select reverse. All the proximity indicators work well. Grateful if anyone can suggest likely fault.
