Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...
Hi Chris Great to see you have resurrected the old barge.Indeed running an elderly B2 is often time consuming and fraught with issues.Currently my GL5 wagon is parked up needing a serious amount of work some of which is necessary to get it through the MOT but other issues compound its viability and ...

Thanks to Chris for documenting his efforts thus far he sure is the Oracle when it comes to the 5pot B2.I think i have learnt so much more from his posts and has certainly helped me with my fuel line refurb.
I sincerely hope you are enjoying driving the old beast after all your hard work!

Re: Slipped into the b2 realm...
Chris. Thanks for the well documented and informed work on your B2.Having myself ran an 87 GL5 wagon for more than 15years it's very reassuring to see that i'm not the only one who has experienced some of the same issues particularly uniquely relating to the 5 pot and K-jet.Although mine is still a w...

Hi mate I take it this is the Black GL5 Estate that was on FB Passat retro for quite some time I was half tempted especially given all the work which has been done to it. My GL5 Estate also requiring a lot of work & as you say brakes are not up to much have also replaced discs/pads etc but still...

Re: Anyone clued up on the Gl5 engines?
Hi Chris Have done a rocker box gasket before & quite honestly can't recall if rubber or cork but get a little leakage anyway. The K-jet has been the bain of my life for 14years it's played up,usually cold starts have been the major issue but recently a hot start. Amazingly it's still going in a...

Re: Anyone clued up on the Gl5 engines?
Hi mate I've got a GL5 K-Jet had it for many years & fiddled with it for just as many. I don't quite follow what you're driving at but suffice to say yes you are correct in that Haynes illustration is slightly different. Whereabouts are you as maybe you could look at mine for reference. As you've...

Re: B2 window scrapers n trim
This is an issue I am faced with if I ever get around to sorting all four doors with replacement door shells that I have.
There is a guy on here who replaced his scrapers with ones from a Vauxhall/Opel Zafira evidently they seem to do the job

Re: Central locking Help needed
Hi
In my experience it's usually the bi pressure pump that acts up although any air leak in the system will cause problems. My current pump sourced from another B2 many years ago moans, groans and hums when Central locking activated.Likewise the original pump just expired.

Re: need help to value mk2 passat
Just noticed the red passat saloon Facebook posting above. If I am reading it right that was potentially a damn expensive MOT at £900 especially considering it didn't need much if any work for its ticket lol

Re: need help to value mk2 passat
Yes correction I should have specified correctly it was a hatchback.interestingly some folk refer to the Passat hatch as a saloon prior to facelift as of course the saloon was a Santana as I understand it facelift Santana became Passat saloon? Some daft marketing going on back in the day.

A guy up in Yorks acquired a mint 82 saloon/hatch GL5 auto with 50k on the clock for the princely sum of £ 500 on eBay about two years ago.So me thinks values in UK are probably lower than say in continental Europe

In addition I also have the uneven tickover, juddering ,poor acceleration inability to climb any sort of incline.Wont rev beyond 3000rpm.Have driven it for 5500 very very difficult miles. The upshot I believe is a tired Bosch injector pump delivering incorrect amounts of fuel.Recon pumps £500 plus! ...
