Re: what are the belts
Here's a pic of the front of my engine with the belts removed. The pulley for the water pump belt came off of the power steering pump and onto the pulley that sits between the power steering pump and the cambelt idle pulley (pulley was removed in the pic). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/madr...

Re: what are the belts
On mine there was a separate small belt for the water pump (1.8 NA). It was a pretty small belt as the pulleys were pretty much right next to each other.

Re: URGENT ADVICE NEEDED: Rear door wont open.
I had this issue with mine. I'd messed up putting the doorcard back on so had to remove it with the door shut and push the release cable in then give it a tug again.
Hope it turns out to be that simple for you.

Re: Service Items
Also when you change the brake fluid don't forget to do flush the fluid through the clutch system too as it runs off the same system. And this is one for the petrol engines, check the fuel filter! Mine was still on its original one 9 years later and the car went like a rocket after I replaced it. No...
Re: B5Tony
I saw B5Tony yesterday in Barnstaple.
Was driving along and saw the car whilst thinking "that's rather nice" but by the time it clicked that it was you you'd already past. That'll teach me for not paying attention.

Re: intresting oil website
I put in my reg and it claimed my 944 was a turbo model and recommended Castrol Edge 0w-40 which is what I used to use in the B5. I don't think anybody would be brave enough to put that in a 944.

Re: True state of donnigton as it is now
It's very sad to see it in such a state. It was always one of my favourite tracks to drive around (although only ever in a game, never been on track properly). This could be worth keeping an eye on. Not sure if it will get anywhere or not but always good to see support for getting the place back up ...

Re: Outer CV Boot/Joint change - noobs guide written by a noob!
Something I forgot to mention when I did mine. I used a cable tie as I didn't have a tool suitable for the metal clip but just couldn't get the cable tie tight enough which meant the boot popped off the joint and it filled with dirt trashing the new joint. My advice is just don't bother with the tie...

Re: Help, all my screenwash is now on the road!
The little rubber grommet that holds the pump in place on the washer bottle was starting to leak a bit on mine just before I sold it. When the screenwash gets lower to the level of the pump the light comes on.

Re: Fuel Consumption :-(
I have trouble getting my tdi 140 to average over 46mpg. I blame the fact it's a sport and has wider stickier tyres and being an estate weighs a ton.
A workmate's 2.2 diesel Accord beats it hands down on fuel economy but I still prefer driving mine to his so I'm not too fussed.

Re: overfilled brake reservoir
On my old 1.8 to bleed the clutch system it was just a case of moving the coolant reservoir out of the way then you could stick your arm down and access the clutch slave cylinder on top of the bell-housing. A word of warning though, be very careful when tightening the bleed nipple as it's only made ...

Re: what other cars you got?
Nice to see a varied collection of cars here. Here are both of mine together http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/madrob6/Porsche%20944/IMG00078-20090620-1618.jpg The B6 is a company car and the 944 is a work in progress. Re: no respect!! update 17/11/09
Had something happen to the bonnet of my B6 shortly after getting it. Had to park it on the street due to where I lived and cleaned the thing religiously. Think it must have got picked on due to being the only well looked after car (which happened to be only 2 months old) on the street. Didn't even ...

This post makes some sense; Wow man, closed minded much? I could say that anyone that drives an american car is a beer swilling, nascar loving, negro hatin' redneck, but wouldn't that be a generalization? Of course vw guys are enthusiastic about their cars, aren't you enthusiastic about s10's? You ...

I like the red ones but that may just be because they remind me of the Fuchs from a 1970s 911 2.7RS yum (and the new GT3 RS).

VWs hard to work on? My B5 was the car that caused me to work on my cars myself as it was so easy to work on, as long as you approach is in a methodical manner it's fine.
Mine didn't fall apart at all unlike my 2 previous Fords which were a constant battle to keep them on the road.

I've been using chemical guys stain remover and fabric clean on my Porsche as it has beige carpets complete with ~26 years of dirt.
Only dirt that stuff isn't shifting it the rust and green stuff from the boot carpet but everything else is coming up beautifully.

Lift the carpet asap and dry it out as much as possible. May be a pain but it's better than the CCM dying or the wiring rotting.

Re: votex alarm
I had a Votex alarm in mine but it had packed up, simply unplugged the wire from it and connected the horn which you can find slightly further up behind the boot carpet.
Only time my indicators didn't flash upon locking was when something had gone wrong and the alarm wasn't active.

Re: Just made a mess
The craftsmanship on that is amazing but I can't help but think that sticking such a huge V10 takes something away from the lightweight simplicity that makes the E30 M3 great. I guess the proof is in the driving of it though. There's a guy on Pistonheads who has put an old M5 engine (I6 not a V8) in...
