Re: B5.5 ... the continuing adventures there of
I would rather do a discreet wiring job inside the dash any day than have stuff hanging out of it, but its not a challenge to do so for me I suppose, besides with my size 13's even that in the socket would have been a clearance problem on my B5.5 Remember on the B5.5 and B5 where the socket is over...

Re: B5.5 ... the continuing adventures there of
Be aware the obd socket has a permanent 12v and theres a permanent drain risk from anything left plugged in, but its possible to mod to a switched live which is better for security too. My obd dongle is permanently plugged in on an extension like this with a switch to turn it on when required saves...

Volt meter/usb charger query
Having recently replaced the original gamma with a single DIN Sony unit I have fitted a storage tray that I would like to fit a voltmeter and usb charging socket in. When doing this in the past I've taken the live from the cigarette lighter, as it's so close to the stereo wiring would I be able to s...

Another hijack,
Does the Passat need a wiring adapter to make an aftermarket stereo plug and play? Never had mine out but replacing with aftermarket unit and rather have one than resort to getting the soldering iron out.

Re: Gamma information
Yes you need a booster for aftermarket units. Thanks not come across this as first VW so never had this issue before. I suggest you do some more learning what android units can do and how it all works. Ive had dozens of aftermarket stereos over the years, in many vehicles VAG/VW included and a numb...

Re: Gamma information
Try disconnecting the battery again for 30 minutes. This first as free fixes are always best. Sounds like faff. Just fit an Android based unit, theres plenty of good makes and models. Without the screen mirroring, rear view camera, maps and ability to show live data through torque I don't see the b...

Re: Gamma information
Would I need an Ariel amplifier? Have read about issues elsewhere. Tbh if replacing I would go with double din and rear view camera etc possibly android screen mirroring if anyone has info, have Bluetooth obd and torque so would be good for that and Google maps.

Re: Gamma information
Just to update it did come on after a couple of journeys 2 days later. Now my current problem after the steering rack decided it no longer wanted to hold steering fluid I had to put the car in the garage for it to be replaced. The garage disconnected the battery and the stereo hasn't come back on an...

You can get the full bifta on ebay complete on metal door panel about 45 quid. Makes the job real easy. I'm sure it was £30 for full metal panel with cable attached when I bought one last year, and about £15-20 for the cable. Easyish job to do yourself took me an hour (half of that was getting to t...

Looking forward to see this progress, can't be many of these left now. Your plans are probably the route I'd take, do like a bit of real patina (not the forced look). I'm guessing you're looking to show so I would have the engine and underneath all restored and detailed. Tbh wish I had the skills/fi...

I'm not a sparky but wouldn't the fact the strips work suggest that the fault lies after there connection?

Sorry if I didn't make it clear, when fitting the led didn't work (I did turn it round haha) I tried one of the working bulbs removed from the front to rule out a bulb issue.

Sorry dude, I didn't see this post go up... I had some in 'stock' - probably got them for a previous car by mistake.. Have you fitted them yet? Rear interior boot light not working
Since owning my estate it has never worked which I had put down to a duff bulb. I have recently fitted LEDs to interior and it hasn't fixed the issue. With the darker nights it's becoming more of an issue. Ruled out the bulb and guessing as there are no other obvious issues the fuse is good. Anyone ...

Re: How many miles are you getting from a tank ???
Around 650 miles from a brimmed tank, however I’ve noticed the consumption has gone up quite a bit now the weather is colder - why is this? Cold weather affects your vehicle in more ways than you might expect: Engine and transmission friction increases in cold temperatures due to cold engine oil an...
