Window isolator switch
Anybody ever had issues with the isolator switch? Ours does not work and I have a four year old who likes opening the windows.
I have seen pattern switches on ebay - I would imagine genuine parts cost £££££.

Does anybody have a k&n filter in their diesel car?
Was it worth the cost?
Any difference in performance / economy?

The double skinned main box on our estate has rusted through finally - it is blowing a bit - also near the front is a bit of raspyness - I checked the flexi but could'nt detect any blowing.

Re: 5 speed box
Bit of an update. Although the car was smoother the gear change reminded me of the rover SD1's I used to have. I drained the oil again and replaced it with the sintofluid 75w. The oil had only been in for a few weeks but was already honey coloured. I have not driven the car but my wife has - she say...

Re: 5 speed box
75w90 fully syn. Third gear had started to baulk - change into third slowly and it was ok. How any manufacturer can say transmission oil does not need replacing I don't know. If you have a pair of ramps it makes life easier - and a breaker bar to crack the plugs open. The car is much smoother on the...

Replaced the oil today - what a difference.
The old oil was like drinking chocolate. I nticed some particlesin the oil but not as much as I was expecting.

Water pump and timing belt
Been quoted £445 for water pump/ timing belt on our 2004 pd. I am not sure if that is cheap/reasonable/expensive as such things go - we are not in London (actually the north west) so I have no idea if that is a good price.

5 speed box
Is the five speed box known for issues?
Ours has began to crunch if you change into 3rd quickly.
Change slowly and it seems to be ok.
I assumed the syncromesh is at fault.
I was hoping to avoid the gearbox issues that saw off my dad's car - that had the six speed box.

I had'nt drove our passat for a week or so - it is my wife's car - I drove the car to North Wales on Friday and noticed what could only be described as " coarseness". No EML - car showed 60 mpg at one point - but when moving the car felt like different - like it was very tired. Have you ev...

Re: Carry on or scrap?
Our's failed its MOT today - front number plate, headlight that won't adjust and an issue with front suspension. £280 for another 12 months on the road.
However there are advisories for all the dampers and front springs, plus it is overdue for a timing belt.
What to do?

Re: New owner.
Scuttle drain? Make sure drain holes are clear. If you have an estate check for rust inside the tailgate - by the time it is visible on the outside it is too late. Rust occurs under the glass and around number plate lights. Rear dampers go off with age. We have an 04 highline with the awx motor - it...
