I believe it only sounds if you alter the settings on vcds. I did play around with this in trying to sort mine. Unfortunately I still haven't repaired mine yet.

I would leave my dog in the car at times.
•Remove the key from the ignition
•Then open drivers door
•Press the B post switch
•Close drivers door
•Lock car using fob

Regular servicing, I got to 208k before the noisy gearbox went pop. Very Few issues with mine, so enjoy a great car
