Yep, the RCD500 is dead.
What is required...

MUST HAVE
Sat-Nav
Input for a reversing camera (one included would be fab)
Input for an MP£ player/ipod
RDS Radio

DESIRABLE
DAB Radio

It doesn't have to have a CD player if I have an iPod connection

Budget is about £250 chaps

I went to switch on the RCD 500 in my Passat B6 saloon and it refused to cooperate.

This is precipitating my choice to replace it I think.

Any ideas on how I can get the CDs that are in it out of the machine?

Personally I'd go for something aftermarket with all modern features built in. Although be don't know when the digital radio switchover will be, DAB is a must to future proof it.
