Well the abf has gone now, it was getting mid 30s on a run but with the driving i was doing it was averaging 27.2, so now have a tdi sat on the drive. Gotta wonder what im doing sometimes as the abf was sorted, everything worked and the tdi has some electrical gremlins which im working my way throug...

Sounds like diesel is the way forward (never thought i would say that) with that sort of mpg would be saving quite a bit.

It was a lot more expensive but Its 2p a litre dearer at most round here so if i can get an extra 15-20mpg then it would be a saving. Nothing to say the prices wont go up again though...

No its on the drivers side, its definately something loose in the top mount, can hear it when i bounce the car. I imagine that its the top bolt coming loose as it was alright for a few days and is now knocking like a good un, gonna strip it again tomorrow and see.

i too have a knocking sound one side after fitting the coilovers, need to pull it apart again and investigate. As a matter of interest how low are peoples cars sitting? My coilovers are set an inch from the highest setting and the car is seriously low at the back, tyre tucking well into the arch. Do...

An alternative to the paving slabs would be to chop a coil out of the rear springs if it sits too high, done it before on a mk1 golf and it didnt affect the ride.

Just a small update, in the last week i have repaired a small blow in the exhaust, put in new plugs and an air filter and changed the thermostat as it was running just below 90 and having put 30 quids worth of gas in i have already done 100 miles and the guage has hardly moved which is a massive imp...

Thanks for the replies, its definately not the brakes, they were recently overhauled and it coasts quite happily with no noises or excessive heat. The engine temp is also fine and the heaters nice and hot. Will check all the vacuum pipes and the spark plugs this week as I have to spend a day changin...
