I had an old bit of 40mm thick kitchen worktop that i cut up and fashioned into ramps 80mm thick that I reversed the back wheels onto before jacking up the front and put on axle stands. Had the car pretty level and was secure. Shame I didn't take a photo really!

As far as I know mileage shouldn't be a problem with remapping. It might speed up the process of a worn part showing up, but you'd have to replace it eventually regardless. It's quite good but limited. Great for reading codes and clearing them, but doesn't go in to the detail that I'd like it to.
