Re: Pranged it! Door advice appreciated...
Bad luck, pranging your motor is always heartbreaking, especially one you've invested in. I wouldn't worry about the repairs being greater than the value of the car if you won't be claiming. Actually, if the repairs cost around 60% or more of the value of the car, an insurer can deem it uneconomical...

Re: Pioneer SPH-DA120 Car Stereo with Apple CarPlay
Thanks for all the input folks, ended up getting one of these RNS510 style units from gadys-tech on ebay and have been delighted with it. Easy to install did myself. Only issue I have had is radio reception. It has the dual fakra but I can only seem to get one of the antenna connectors from my car ...

Re: Pioneer SPH-DA120 Car Stereo with Apple CarPlay
The CANbus module is upside down mounted by a holding bar that needs its one bolt either side just loosening. The module cable can then be unclipped and the module removed to read the label. It's accessed by removing your climate control panel. Otherwise you'll have to get an Autoscan done to see w...

Re: Pioneer SPH-DA120 Car Stereo with Apple CarPlay
Just a note on the reverse camera and Android boot up, the system for android is separate to the reverse camera which runs on the unit so it is instant! I do find the Xtrons Android unit a bit slow but hear Pumpkin are much quicker at booting a friend has an oversized tablet looking pumpkin unit in...

Re: Pioneer SPH-DA120 Car Stereo with Apple CarPlay
I'm a complete noob to the CANbus thing. Is there an easy way to check my version? Mine is a 2010 (10) Highline model, so hopefully has a more recent/higher version.RichardSEL wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2017 8:03 am Latest androids, like the RNS510, require you to have at least an "F" version of CANbus module

Re: Pioneer SPH-DA120 Car Stereo with Apple CarPlay
I've been tempted by an android unit, mostly for the sat nav feature but I'd also like to install a reverse camera to make use of that feature. However, I've read they can take over 30s to boot up. The reversing I do every day is within 30s of start up, so kind of defeats the point! Tempted by an RN...

Re: Manual Gearbox Oil Change - First Timer Experience
I had an old bit of 40mm thick kitchen worktop that i cut up and fashioned into ramps 80mm thick that I reversed the back wheels onto before jacking up the front and put on axle stands. Had the car pretty level and was secure. Shame I didn't take a photo really!

Manual Gearbox Oil Change - First Timer Experience
Thought I'd share my experience of changing the gearbox oil for the first time over the weekend - it might help others, particularly with the same gearbox as mine. 1) The actual job of changing the oil is an easy job that anyone can do. Took 15 mins tops. But before that... 2) This was the first tim...

Re: B6 CC rear indicator swap for chrome?
If you can't find any and the amber bulbs bother you that much then one option would be to 'dust' the existing bulbs with silver spray paint. I did this many, many years ago after swapping the front indicators on an E36 BMW from amber to clear. I had some amber bulbs and silver paint lying around, s...

Re: PASSAT SPEED
The oomph you get below 5000 in any diesel is plenty enough to shift it, I wouldn't worry about that. The Passat is heavy, yes, but also much more power and torque. 'Official' 0-60 for the Passat is 8.3s, a new 1.7 Sportage is 11.1s. Despite what you can say about official figures, surely this demon...

Re: PASSAT SPEED
As far as I know mileage shouldn't be a problem with remapping. It might speed up the process of a worn part showing up, but you'd have to replace it eventually regardless. Remapping is simple, but I'm not sure it's cheap. Typically £200-£400 from my own research in the past. If you really are strug...

Re: PASSAT SPEED
Mine is the same spec and mileage as yours and I would leave a Sportage for dead, so it definitely sounds like yours isn't running right. Assuming there isn't any obvious wrong (otherwise you would have said), it might be worth checking the DPF isn't blocked. Or anything to do with the turbo/exhaust...

I also have a 170 Tdi (CR), and how and where I drive it makes a very big difference. I use regular Shell diesel and usually it's just me in the car. Normally I'm averaging around 47mpg (according to the computer thingy), which is for a mixture of town and motorway driving, mixture of easy and hard ...

Re: Diagnostic tool
I'd be interested in this too. Same reason.
I have a bluetooth obd2 thingy from Amazon plugged in to my 2010 tdi 170, which I use with Torque Pro app.
It's quite good but limited. Great for reading codes and clearing them, but doesn't go in to the detail that I'd like it to.

Re: Tyre pressure
Are you sure you're reading that table correctly? I always thought that for any of the tyre sizes mentioned on the left, the psi for partial load is 33/33 and for full load psi is 36/44. If I'm right you want to stick with 33/33. Of course I may be wrong - but mine are all set to 33 and look fine (m...

KXZ gearbox. Called different dealer close to work who also thought 911, but after I queried and pointed out gearbox code and so on, he confirmed 171 is required. Pretty miffed that I've been given duff info twice by two separate dealers before telling them how to do their job. And I've bought the w...

Re: New B6 CBBB Estate Owner
That's ok then , just that iirc someone with a B6 was told G 052 171 . 911 is also allowed to be a 75W90 , GL4 and 5 , dealer retail is £24.99 for 1L :hyst You've got me wondering and investigating now! I'd hate to put the wrong oil in. I was highly recommended to get Titan by a friend in the know....

I just need to find out what size hex bit I need and I'm ready to go. Any ideas? I've come across 17mm a few times, but not 100% sure.
