Re: Cold start issues

Try giving the glow plugs a couple of hits on a cold morning (turn the ignition on, wait for the coil light to go out, switch the ignition off and back on, wait for the coil light to go back out) and then try starting it. It does sound like a new set of glow plugs might be a plan in the future though

B5.5 130TDi Sport

A few years back (hmm, might be closer to 5) I used to have a B4 TDi which i sold to a member on here and it was still going strong earlier this year when it came back up for sale. Back in its prime http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/craig1010cc/passat/CRIM0086.jpg Sadly, I wasn't in the market ...

Re: What trims are these?

heres some better shots of the arches. The issue I had fitting them (as a full arch set) was partly the arch shape was different, but mainly that the depression for the rubbing strip is much deeper on the B3's, hence we stopped at the B4 rubbing strip. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/craig101...

Re: What trims are these?

They are indeed a set of cut down b3 gt arches, as i fitted them when it was mine in an attempt to tidy up the tatty front arches. I had hoped to fit the full kit, but the arches are quite different, but the top section worked well.

Buying a B5/B5.5, what to check for

Morning all On the hunt for a new motor and pretty sure it'll be either a B5 or a B5.5 estate. engine wise I'm looking at either the 1.8t or the 2.0 8v (not the most exciting engine I know :P), but what are the passat specific problems areas I should be checking? My budget is only a grand, so will b...

egr valve questions

Evening all, was poking around under the bonnet of my TDi this afternoon (around the airbox) and found a small hose floating about. Traced it back and it goes into a little black box that then goes to the EGR valve. What difference (if any) will it make not having it connected to the airbox (its con...

I didn't. If you go on edition38 and look up the lad that had the blue B3 estate on the corvette rims on Air, he used the parts from his mk3 golf GTi 16v to complete the swap

Re: B4 1.8 SPI - Best mpg figures?

I had a B4 loon 1.8SPI and that struggled to beter 30 MPG, even on a run. I think a MPI one (1.8 or 2.0) would do roughly what you are after (my m2 golf GTi 8v would better 40 on a run).

Re: Hmm, will the arches need a tweak?

I think I have worked it out, the rears on mine have adjustable platforms, so I recon that the platform is 10-20mm closer to the hub than normal and that is the prob. Tried a 5mm shim earlier and it just clears so think I will play it safe and get a 10mm set and jobs a good'n :)

Re: Hmm, will the arches need a tweak?

well, got the 1st side fitted (my drives a bit narrow) and the good news is that the arches are fine. The bad news is that the rears are fouling on my rear shocks (weitec set up so coil overs on the front, struts and lowering springs on the rear). Looks like I'll need a spacer or coilies for the rea...

Hmm, will the arches need a tweak?

Got some new rims for the passat, 7.5x17's, et35 with a set of 205/40/17's fitted on them. Previously ran 7x15, et27 with 195/50/15's without any issues. Had a play on willtheyfit.com and looks like it should be ok. Will find out tomorrow (post office shut before I could get to it to get the correct...

Re: b3 vs b4

u can eaven swap body panels from b4 to b3 Nope, B3 has a swage line running down the sides (I think only the boot/tailgate would swap). Also found out (the hard way) that the B3 GT kit wont fit a B4 with out a fair bit of mod'ing (so I just used the top sections of the arches). B3's are more fashi...

back box effecting MPG (on a TDi)

Morning all, now confession 1st, I am a spreadsheet geek  I've had my B4 TDi loon for over a year now and I keep a speadsheet running tracking my miles and ltrs filled (always to a full tank). When I 1st got it, I was getting around the low - mid 50's (highest was 54), then in April it went...
