My 2002 audi a4 (awx engine)
Has just started leaking coolant from the same area,
Quick question... do all the awx engines use an alloy coolant flange with o ring or are some plastic?

Re: afn turbo issue
as said earlier vac lines are the first port of call,
then would be a "diagnostic fault code read" with some readings in live data,
then a clean of the vnt geometry in the hot side of the turbo

Re: blacksmoke remap...
my old afn engine was too old for a remap through the obd socket,
but bought an already done ecu from "blacksmoke"
very happy with purchase, car pulls like a train & still gets decent mpg
"highly recommended"

Re: TDI cat visual
But what about B5.5's with decated downpipes ? if the cat/particle filter is not there, "replaced with de-cat pipe" it is now a failure! as stated in the mot special notices, if the tester fails to check this or misses it on his own head be it! but is now a failure! however gutting the in...

I find it eaiser just to move the air con rad out of the way and remove the complete front Lots more room Dave i do the same as dave, radiator drained of water & complete front end swung to one side, gives you loads of room & the job is loads easier like that for the sake of a couple of ext...

every time i have done the afn filter i just filled the new filter with diesel
& just started the car, then left running 5 minutes or so to let the air in the system to flow
back to the tank, never had any real problems with this & never ever had to bleed mine
