Re: Long Days MPG

I took the pug estate 2.0 110 hdi to download at the weekend, me the wife and a boot load of stuff and 600 miles. I got 54 mpg on the trip computer, worked out on the calculator at 52 mpg. Not as quick or as comfortable as the passat but has cruise control which made the m6 and a50 easier and I felt...

As above my grandfather had one for a while, the passat takes my vote every time I'd even take my ropey 406 estate over one.

Re: Recon Drive Shaft

J&r seems to be a bit hit and miss some people have no problems some people do. Personally reading the reviews on Google put me off and I bought a new one from GSF, at the moment they can be had for around £100 with code CLUBGSF

Also depends on the tester, some will just do it cold and not care, where I take mine they leave it running from the moment the take it in and wait for it to get up to temperature.

Really? Hadn't thought about that. Even better if it doesn't effect the noise levels.

Re: Exhaust troubles

I've seen that they are well made and double skinned but when the hanger came off it took a fair bit if the outer skin with it and I can see the stainless inner wall. There's nothing really suitable to weld it back onto as the surrounding metal is crusty.

Exhaust troubles

While out in the b5.5 today I noticed a knocking noise from underneath, so I pulled over and sure enough the exhaust was knocking. The hanger on the centre box had broken off and was swinging around in the breeze. Anyway does anyone have any suggestions on where to get the center box section or what...

Re: Front upright upper pinch bolt

Probably best to put it down to personal preference. The pinch bolt is a sod to get off without any form of grease. Personally I used cv/molly lithium based grease because it's all I had at the time, when I came to remove the bolt a year or so later to change the uppers it came out with no hassle.

Sounds like you'd made your mind up before asking the question.
Having been in the same position when buying our passat, I looked at loads probably 10 or more b6 tdi 140 and 170 and only 1 b5.5 tdi 130. Can you guess what I took home with me?

I'm further north near Whitehaven, we moved up hear from Merseyside 3 years ago. To say it was a culture shock an understatement, there just seems to be no rush for anything up here. As for the pot holes ~x( some if them are just dangerous you'd think someone had been trying to dig up the road.
