Re: No crank-non starter

I haven't connected any diagnostic kit yet but I very much think the ecu has failed from possible water ingress, not from flooding thou the drains don't look that bad.
What an incredibly stupid place to put the ecu, they should be shot!
Has anyone repaired or replaced an ecu?

Re: Back behind the wheel of a Passat!

Wow to both comments! Let's hope so! Thats a mighty fine looking motor!!

Just looking into timing belt kits, mines a CFFB engine which seems a different kit/tensioner to most is their a thread on here relating to any differences with timing belt kits?

Back behind the wheel of a Passat!

Many years ago I was very fortunate to own and love a 1998 AFN B5 Estate.

Today marks the return to Passat ownership (getting delivered tomorrow) B7 2013 2.0 tdi Blue motion estate, wants a clean inside and out, a rear bumper and a n/s/r seat belt as it's been chewed. It's my first modern car with ...

Re: Clutch replacement parts

A did a B5 AJM, there's a really annoying coolant pipe that's a nuisance at the top of the bell housing.

A stud and nut can be a life saver as this acts like an extended dowl and helps to line up the engine and box (commonly found on Peugeot gearboxes)

Re: Clutch replacement parts

Clutch kit with flywheel are the essential parts.you may want flywheel and clutch bolts too but I have always reused mine. The spigot bearing takes a bit work packing with grease and hydraulic in out.

The final countdown...a sad farewell!

Although the B5 has been off the road for a around 4 years, I say goodbye to my old faithful on Saturday when it gets collected for what I presume will be scrap/breaking or maybe exported either way they fetch a good price!

Always starts efforlessly and the A/C still works (sure do miss the A/C ...

Re: Removing Alternator clutch pulley

My method is to remove the alternator

I make this easy by snapping a cooling fin on the back of the viscous fan, look for biggest spaced and snap that by placing a prybar in and twisting.

This allows easy removal of the bolts and alternator. 20 min job!
