Re: jealousy?

I have been looking at newer cars today. My B5.5 has had a few £ spent in it recently. Rear calipers, plugs, cam belt and water pump, cv boot, front discs and pads and last night I found the handbrake had gone loose and the rear OS Caliper is sticking. Think it will have been caused by driving throu...

Drive to Pembrokeshire from Chester 2 weeks ago. Took bloody ages and my son threw up all over himself. Roads were grand though.

It goes back in eventually. Just be careful. I cracked my windscreen putting mine back in a couple of years back.

Mine passed yesterday blowing 0.30. 2005 AWX, 155k with the last 25k ish having 2 stroke in every tank and regularly giving it some hammer. Just a couple of cloudy headlights need sorting and a CV boot needing replacing soon needed. Pretty happy with that. 0.30 exactly the same as mine :-bd It is a...

Us fellas, we have got to get better with mental health. Granted, it's a lot more high profile these days and some great work has been done but lads, if you're struggling, please talk to someone. If you think a mate is struggling, please talk to them. We can't keep bottling this stuff up. Too many b...

Re: Time to leave

Terrible service , a B7 is ment to be the lesser fault free refined version of the infamous B6 . My new German steed has diagnosed issues that I've not seen in a 6 year ownership of the B5.5 issues I've not experienced in getting on for 30 years of motoring , but luckily I have a 12 month outside N...

It still won't go over 110 and even 'driving miss daisy' it struggles to get much over 40mpg..

But I was driving a 1997 Daihatsu Fourtrak for a month so I'm feeling blessed..

Must be a nightmare not being able to go over 110.

Re: Cam Belt Change

Despite any B5.5 now only being worth between £0 to about £1.5k for the very best ones, they are good solid cars that don't really rust and wikk last and last if looked over properly. It would be a false economy not to do, as a minimum, the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, timing belt idler pull...

Re: New Passat owner

I used to have a 63 plate Seat Toledo with the 1.6. Over 12k miles I averaged 58.3MPG. Probably 60/40 in favour of motorways/national speed limit rather than town driving. It was brilliant on fuel. The Passat will be a bigger and heavier car I'm sure. Edit: Just looked and the Passat is over 250KG's...

I didn’t really have any preference to be honest mate. Saw good reviews for the Bosch, looked an ok price so went ahead. The ones in the car were all probably original so anything was an improvement to be honest.

Always default to fuel/injectors/pump (lift or tandem), some sensor or other etc..

Never consider plugs... Here's hoping [emoji1695]

My 05 AWX, 151k was similar (though not as bad) recently. Moody in the cold mornings. Took longer to start (still always first time though), but lumpy when started and quite smokey. Changed the plugs last Wednesday to done Bosch ones and it’s infinitely better now.
