So what has gone ?

Further to my post about my water pump failing I'm now really confused. I had a WTF moment and turned the car over and she started ! So not cam belt. A tiny bit of throttle produced clouds of white smoke. The expansion bottle does not seem to be pressurised and no obvious leaks anywhere, could anyon...

water pump failed

Hi my 56 plate 2.0 BMR engine has I think just blown the water pump. I had a low coolant alarm yesterday and I topped it up. I started it this morning and it has just died and won't start again. I strongly suspect the cam belt has jumped. Does this engine have any kind of protection for the valves o...

Re: Variable intake manifold switchover valve

Forgot to mention, I de-gunked my Rover's plastic intake manifold using one of those oven cleaner bags. I removed the sensors etc and swilled the goo from the bag inside the manifold and left it in the bag for a couple of days then used bottle cleaners and a pressure washer to rinse it out. It came ...

Re: Variable intake manifold switchover valve

Thanks Mitch, I had a diagnostic done today and it had the error code P3138 intake manifold runner control, the garage bloke shrugged his shoulders and told me, New manifold mate ! He said it was wear on the butterflies and they just replace the whole unit (which would fix any of the faults!) I've r...

Re: Variable intake manifold switchover valve

Thanks Mitch, Looks like I'm going to have to find somewhere with VCDS around Gloucester to accurately diagnose it. Mine is the Cast alloy inlet with flaps BTW.

Re: Variable intake manifold switchover valve

Thanks for the reply Liverpoolee, The scanner didn't throw up a fault code unfortunately, generic reader. The code seems to be on common rail engines, any idea if its the same for PD's ?

Re: BMR Starting and poor running issues

Talk about tempting fate, started her up this morning and I got the emissions workshop warning and the pigtail flashed all the way to work ! So new glow plugs and ITP it is then. And its 1800 - 2000rpm misfire has come back with a vengance.

Re: BMR Starting and poor running issues

In tank pumps were a problem with the Rover 75 I used to own(BMW Diesel engine, remapped to 160). Is there a recommended pump to go for ? I see on the bay there is just the bare bones pump or the whole lift assembly, is it a straight forward job to change the pump unit ?

Re: BMR Starting and poor running issues

Hi Mitch, thanks for the reply, I'm in Gloucester. The most annoying thing is it intermittent so could well be the pump failing.

BMR Starting and poor running issues

Hello again, I'm having nothing but trouble with this engine ! BMR 170. The car is difficult to start and ticks over like a bag of spanners and seems to hesitate around 2k rpm. I have no glow plug warning (emissions workshop) I have a horrible suspicion that I have an injector leaking back, is there...

Re: Locked out with a dud injector

Thankfully the garage managed to open the car using the plastic key after spraying penetrant into the lock and leaving it overnight.I still have a problem finding somewhere to supply the injector though. It is a Siemens, part No 03G130073T. Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Locked out with a dud injector

I could really do with a break ! My 06 170 SEL has been in the garage with a faulty injector No4 and now the battery has gone flat and deadlocked the car.The plastic key in the fob won't open the lock either. The garage has suggested breaking a window but before they take that extreme step is there a...

My engine code is BMR, if it's one of the effected engines I will seriously think about selling it before it goes bang.

Re: 2,400 cars recalled for oil pump failure !!!

As a newbie I'm horrified by the fact that VW acknowledge there is a problem with the oil pump and are doing diddly squat about it ! I have a 2007 2.0 170bhp SEL with 112k on the clock, can anyone point me in the direction of the pump upgrade please ? Would it be worthwhile contacting VOSA regarding...

170bhp TDi lumpy idle

Hello there, my first post and I'm after a little sage advice ! My 170BHP dizzel seems to be down on power with a lumpy idle (112k miles, injector recall about 40k ago) and my throttle pedal seems to stick, well its more like a hard resistance against the pedal itself. Could these be related ? Also,...

Handling problem

Good evening all. I'm a newbie and overall very impressed with my 170 diesel estate in pearl black. I 've already had the stuck drivers door (fixed with a tap from a mallet !) and just had my first DPF light come on,a quick blast down the M5 seems to have sorted that. My main concern is when I lift ...

I'm very impressed with it so far,I love the power delivery and it is effortless and comfy on the motorway. I have just a few concerns. It seems to wander for no re...
