Re: Coolant loss!
mine was over pressuring due to head gasket and pushing the coolant out of the overflow on the coolant reservoir, underneath the reservoir is where the overflow exits, check coolant is not dripping from there. As previously mentioned I had found a drop or two of what I thought was coolant under the...

Coolant loss!
I have an ongoing coolant loss problem. My 1.9 tdi estate started to lose the volume of its header tank in around 10-14 days say maybe 150-200 miles. It went into a VAG independent garage who changed the thermostat housing as there was evidence of leakage in that area. However the loss continued at ...

Re: Revs up and down intermittently
Well thankfully the current thorn in the side problem is over and it was indeed the CTS. I used Vagtechnik in Eccles who quickly sorted it so I can get back to work without the added stress of my car trying to kill me :) I'll get it back there for a minor service soon. Thanks so much for everyone's ...

Re: Revs up and down intermittently
change the cts i have had this before no codes stored only shows in live data Cheers Dave, I dropped it off with Vagtechnic this morning as I have a very small time window I can just about do without the car. They are very busy and a man down but hopefully I will have some good news in the morning....

Re: Revs up and down intermittently
Initially the car was fine today so I tentatively thought adding some water had done the trick.....alas the probs returned after a while perhaps after it warmed up. ![Sad :-(](./images/smilies/2.gif)

Re: Revs up and down intermittently
Well the mechanic came and went and the upshot is (drum roll for effect) No codes found neither recorded or pending. The water level however was very low so perhaps the relevant CTS was being starved of water? Have been recommended a non main dealer vw garage so in the absence of time will probably ...

Re: Revs up and down intermittently
Hopefully, I did put out a call for any member mechanics in or near Manchester on the forum for an issue with a previous Passat But didn't find one. I much prefer doing it this way. I have had members on another forum work on my Puma ans always had good quality work done at a fair price, although I ...

Re: Revs up and down intermittently
I was going to say CTS, mine used to do it but not to the same extremes as yours. It won't show on the temp gauge as I believe there are 2 circuits, one feeds engine Temp data to the ECU and one feeds the temp gauge. If you're quick you can do it without losing too much coolant, make sure you've go...

Re: Revs up and down intermittently
Had a similar prob with my wagon. The engine revs were all over the place and when i started it up it would rev 5 or 6 times in quick succession up to 2000rpm. Found it to be the coolant temp sensor. Changed that and all is normal now. Noted Thank You. Was this happening even when starting a cold e...

Re: Revs up and down intermittently
MAF ? Ok cheers I'll see if I can find it. Do people try and clean them on these cars? having said that they are very cheap on the bay, or is that false economy for this part? Thanks for your reply Cleaning them does nothing except waste your time doing so. Cheap ones are a false economy as well. W...

Re: Revs up and down intermittently
Don't know but... As a word of warning always be ready to quickly stall the engine. Could be early signs of the turbo shaft failing letting oil into the inlet. If enough oil gets past the turbo the engine can 'run away' using its own engine oil as fuel. Does it use much oil ? A very dramatic and fr...

Revs up and down intermittently
I have a 1.9 TDI B5.5 estate I have had it a couple of months without any of the issue I will now describe. An inappropriate revving problem would be the best description, the problem occurs when the cars either hot or cold. The problem began to surface with the tick over occasionally rising from it...

Re: radio swap
Might be fine, do you mean the older (B5) single din dash, or the later lower spec (B5.5) single din dash. Or are you putting a single din into the car (B5.5 double din dash) in place of the old galaxy head unit and ditching the CD changer? I will be fitting a single DIN aftermarket used stereo int...

Re: radio swap
Its 2 x single din with a slot in divider shelf, so its slightly higher than a standard double din. People have reported needing adapter kits to fit standard double din units, with some difficulty getting the right items. I only ever fitted a VW specific Kenwood to mine so never had to deal with th...

Noisy drivers seat pan
Just looking for a bit of basic info on the drivers seat pan till I get time to have a look. Basically mine makes unfortunate noises a sort of metallic creaking noise when I move about in the seat seemingly from the seat pan. So is this common and whats the fix? is it a metal seat pan or some kind o...

Re: radio swap
If youre buying an antenna adaptor youll need one that connects to single Fakra connector on the cars side, to whatever you need on the Stereos end. Generally they come in fakra to fakra, or fakra to phono. If you have the double din dash youll also need a fitting kit to adapt the car to standard d...

Re: radio swap
I have just noticed the stereo side connector red wire has a separate spur that has what looks like a cap maybe heat shrunk on the end. The stereo colour code calls red "accessory" would that be a candidate to connect the aerial adapter to?

Re: radio swap
Is this a big problem and how does it show itself? Does this mean that the radio is powered up when the ignitions off and the key is out? I noticed there are two wires (among the others) that come out of the radio one yellow and one red, both of these seem to have a plugable connector in the middle ...

I had an aftermarket radio in my previous car a W Reg B5 estate which I now wish to put into its replacement a Y Reg B 5.5 estate.
