Re: Low on power, juddering and lots of smoke
So just to wrap this problem up it turned out to be an egr valve problem which wasn't too expensive to have replaced and the cars been back in daily use since. This solved the smoking problem but there still is as there has been for many many months an underlying intermittent injector problem. The l...

Re: Low on power, juddering and lots of smoke
Yes it was my fear that her loss would be someone else's gain, way of the world I guess, Im no mechanic but I would have loved to have the time to have a go at finding some of those small things but work 7 days a week.

Re: Low on power, juddering and lots of smoke
Thanks for the help folks. Yes a 5.5 should have been a better choice for her and probably given the choice of unknown repairs and diagnosis probably getting one now is a better choice than having it fixed. However non of the places who have either seen it or shes talked to with a view to diagnosing...

Low on power, juddering and lots of smoke
Hi guys I'm making this enquiry on behalf of a friend, she has an 06 diesel estate she needs very much for work. Which was in daily use until very recently for the past four years. It hasn't started particularly well for a while but has run pretty ok. It has a history of two different injector failu...

Re: Drivers Side, side airbag sensor
So thankfully after a massive £189 pants down at the main dealers for the supply of my new crash sensor, its fitted and its happy days with no dash warning lights present. Along with a new temperature sensor and a working temperature guage.. Still havent got the boot opening without the key so thats...

Re: Drivers Side, side airbag sensor
My mechanic got his hands dirty today and did some more scanning and removed the crash sensor which was indeed under the drivers seat. Happiliy it was nice and dry under there. The original scan said 01221 Side airbag Crash Sensor, then when the Sensor was removed and it was scanned again in additio...

Re: Drivers Side, side airbag sensor
So theres definitely a mix of success and failures with these crash sensors. Some people have had success with used parts and some people haven't. I have heard mention of VW needing the chassis no's to order the part even some mention of colour coding as well. However if some people were successful ...

Re: Drivers Side, side airbag sensor
I'm currently under the impression its on the floor underneath the seat I guess the mechanic will see in due course. There seems to be a lot of folks who found used items with matching serial numbers have not worked and theres some talk of colour codes on the sensor as well as the sensor needing to ...

Boot solonoid not working
My new 05 Highline estates boot doesnt open unless using the key. Changing the position of the key slot in the boot doesnt make a difference nor is there a slot for the key in the drivers door pocket. (Valet lock? ) Due to broken inner panel clips and other clues its obvious the panel has been off b...

Re: Indicator relay noise
Thanks mclee, I managed to get some time to read up on the forum and it does look like a stalk problem maybe cleaning will do it or more likely a new stalk. Hopefully someone will know of a reasonable priced option that goes the distance? When I tried an ebay replacement relay to try and solve it th...

Indicator relay noise
On my 02 B5.5 estate I have recently started getting excess noise from the indicator relay. Either randomly or after turning the indicator off or it self cancelling there was lots of very rapid excess clicking. This wasn't accompanied by any indicators flashing as far as I could see. Anyway I assume...

Third Time Lucky
I recently bought my third B5.5 estate. I'm a dog walker and use them for work. After looking for a low mileage good example for ages for work reliability either as a second car or as a replacement car I bought a 54 plate Highline with 71k, 2 owners, and some service history including an unconfirmed...

Re: Coolant loss!
Its a hell of a slow update on this but the problem turned out to be the cheapest easiest it could be, a slowly leaking coolant reservoir cap. Couldn't believe my luck.
Thanks everyone

Re: Alarm and locking problem
Just wanted to pop in and do an update say thanks again and get a bit more info please. So I had the drivers door catch module replaced along with a dodgy mirrors switch. so now the dash door open light comes on, the puddle light works and the alarm sounds if I try to exit and leave the lights on. (...

Re: Alarm and locking problem
Thanks for your reply. Ive also now noticed that the drivers door doesn't bring up the door open warning when its opened on the dash nor does it sound the lights on buzzer when I open the drivers door. Ive also noticed the wing mirrors don't work anymore but obviously might not be related. Does that...

Alarm and locking problem
I have two problems with my 5.5 estate perhaps they have the same cause? Firstly the car regularly locks itself when I exit it followed by the alarm going off. Secondly when I leave the car with dogs in it and press the button on the door pillar and lock the car the alarm goes off. Previously this b...

knocking from rear when breaking??
I have an intermittent mostly present knocking when I apply the brakes from the rear of the car a 2001 B5.5 estate. Each application of the brakes causes a single knock, sometimes from the rear left sometimes the rear right sometimes from both almost simultaneously. I had an independent VW garage lo...

Re: Coolant loss!
Thanks for all your replies its much appreciated. I guess despite the two garage visits which were very difficult to fit in as I need the car all the time I'm still really non the wiser. The garages having previously having done a pressure test on the system for an hour which showed no problem, they...
