Re: Auto's are there any issues to be careful of?
I have a regular (non-tiptronic 4 speed) automatic, and it's worked flawlessly for 220k km. I changed the oil once.

Re: AC compressor not working.
Could be the compressor clutch, I suppose. I believe the wire that's connected to the compressor will engage the clutch when 12V is applied, so it should be possible to verify. (But I don't remember very well, verify info elsewhere first.)

Re: New 2000 B5 estate owner, some problems
3. Rear wiper inop, anything common to failing on these? Also when operating rear washer see water in left hand of boot area by cd changer. Where does the pipe run? This sounds familiar. What happened to mine (and I believe many VAGs) is that there's a leakage in the rear wiper motor. This causes w...

Re: removing pinch bolts ahhhhhhhhhh
One trick I found somewhere was to hack off the bolt head (using a dremel), and then pull the bolt out by tightening the nut. This worked for me on one of the pinch bolts, on the other side the thread end snapped off... probably should have used more wd-40 on that one.

Re: Keeping a wagon demisted?
One problem is that the air con will not work below 4 degrees C and another is that the servo that operates the fresh air inlet flap buggers up, meaning you could be trying to demist using recirculated air. How can I check whether my inlet flap is working or not? Where is it located? Thanks, Frode ...

Re: Interior lights automatic switching doesn't work
I fixed my problem, I'm posting the solution here for future googlers. The problem was a bad micro-switch in the driver side rear door. This caused the car to think this door was always open, causing the interior ligths to always be on, forcing me to turn each light to the "always off" pos...

Re: Passenger side airbag sensor location
Oh, and there was a piece that popped out from somewhere near the corner of the bonnet over/beside the pollen filter, and I couldn't figure out where to put it back! I'm trying to attach an image, hopefully it works. So, does anyone know what this might be/where it goes?

Re: Passenger side airbag sensor location
With the battery disconnected I tried to measure the resistance between the two leads to the sensor. My multimeter didn't seem to be up to the task, providing very different measurements (in the many kilo-ohms range) depending on its range setting. Doesn't seem consistent with a wire fault to me (I ...

Re: Passenger side airbag sensor location

Re: Passenger side airbag sensor location
I took the seat out, picked up the carpet and it was moist bordering on liquid. Got the sensor out and am now keeping it in a warm dry place, I'm hoping any moisture inside will dry out. Also drying the carpet, and I'll see tomorrow when I put it all back together if the fault clears. Otherwise I gu...

Re: Passenger side airbag sensor location
Thanks jony, that means it's probably the shitty drainage that's flooding the footwell causing a short in the airbag sensor. I really need to fix the drainage. The pollen filter and the spot under the battery were dry when I last checked and found the carpet soaked, though, so I guess the leak must ...

Well I finally got the VAG-COM going, so here's the code. I tried to clear it, but it came back immediately. I'll be having a look under the passenger seat this evening. Re: Passenger side airbag sensor location
I don't know the fault code, I had the car at the dealership for the MOT. I asked them to scan the car, and they said it was a driver side airbag sensor. I understood them to say it was located under the carpet somewhere. But I also thought the sensors were in the seats, so I wouldn't be surprised i...

Passenger side airbag sensor location
I was told my airbag sensor light is on because of a sensor in the passenger side footwell. I've been under the carpet there a few times to mop up water, but I've only seen the comfort module. Anyone knows where exactly this sensor would be located?

Disconnect battery to clear codes? Airbag fault
Short story: Can I disconnect the battery as a cheap/easy way to clear fault codes? (2000 AHU passat) Slightly longer story: The airbag fault indicator went off a few days ago. The dealership did a scan and said it was a sensor in the passenger footwell. They cleared it but it reappeared (or so they...

How to open 4-speed automatic transmission (01n)?
I was hoping to change the atf and filter in my automatic transmission (4-speed 01n type, car is 1.9 TDI 2000 AHU estate), but once I got under the car I found of course that (at least) one bolt was covered by some rigid steel piping. ~x( I gave up and just flushed the atf and refilled it. Can anyon...

Re: heater plugs
I had three of the four heater plugs blown without any lights going off at all, so I'd guess your problem is something else. It's easy to check the plugs, just unplug them and measure the resistances, which should be in the area of 0.7 ohm, I think it was.

Could you explain a bit which wire where and which terminals? Is it the wires running inside the rubber thingy near the door hinges? If so, do you just push the rubber away?firehawk wrote:probably the door switch. pop the wire off and bridge the terminals. if the light comes on, your switch is fooked
