The hex was pretty much rounded, inner shaft looked worn. Did not take pic sorry.
Luckily no underlying damage to top of engine or turbo.

OK so after a few hours I got the cluster and wheel installed! Looks nicer already. BUT I have noticed some issues... 1 - no power steering, abs light and wheel light on. I went for a short drive but this did not clear. 2 - menu buttons does not work, OK and arrows work, the radio up/down not workin...

You can try and hold the EPB button down for 10 seconds and see if it resets, if not then the motor is done. In which case you will need to remove the motor on the back of the caliper which is stuck and push back the piston slightly

so far no issues, letting the glow plugs warm up does the trick. no smoke

Keep us updated if you found out the heater matrix is the culprit
