Presume you mean the drive selection mode button?. This seems to make little or no difference in a manual. Cant speak for ECO as I have never used it but SPORT and NORMAL seem exactly the same. Ended up buying a DTE pedalbox that makes a big difference to throttle response and does what I thought ...

I only said I may try the shorter trips in ECO, those less than 3 miles - otherwise it'll likely to stay in Sport mode.

I think 'Normal' Mode is probably the option I'll stick with - I got good fuel consumption and had a reasonable amount of power to hand (right foot) when needed, though I have yet to try Sport. My boss who has a 2015 Golf TDI GTI (whatever) keeps his in Sport mode ...

Just an update on the gearbox, it hasn't broken yet and has covered about 40,00 miles since the noise came back in June 2011. It's getting a bit more noisy, depending on how warm the weather is. Mileage is about 175,000.

It may be false economy to hang on like this and I now have a contact out ...

The rear wiper was getting slower and slower. It needed a hand a couple of times to get parked back into it's finished position until it gave up completely mid rear screen.

So, I took it out to have a look...

The rear panel had four screws in it two of which are behind screw caps in the hatch pull ...

Can't help really, but my 'box is whinning again, and out of warranty... . Gonna drive it till it breaks, not sure what else I can do as spending £1300+ hasn't improved it...
