Re: Timing belt and tensioner stud
Apologies for the thread revival but is there any recommendation on re-installing - to loctite or not?

Re: AWX Engine Compatability
When you say doesn't hold water, is it like goes through instantly or you leave it in, and it passes through after longer period. If second option I won't worry about it too much. Pistons are having blow buy as well, nothing is 100% hermetic. And after some working that valve might start to seal pr...

Re: AWX Engine Compatability
Thread closed for me. Who does a leakdown test from the cam oil gallery on a built engine with water???! Stop messing about, grasping at chances and throwing money at false economies. Take it to a professional and ask them what to and what it costs. The head isn't on the car, there is no problem wi...

Re: AWX Engine Compatability
Just for some slight closure to the thread, there is a buggered lifter on cyl 4 but also a valve - with cam removed the cylinder doesn't hold water. Others don't look much better, one on cyl 1 has a big crease in it which can't be far off becoming a hole. https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/827/4190776440...

Re: AWX Engine Compatability
And air filter sounds exactly as my afn engine before cylinder head swap. Only on my engine that sound was going away and coming back every few minutes. Don't know exactly reason of it. Camshaft was good on mine, but cylinder head had marks from smashed tapped some time before my ownership, tappets...

Re: AWX Engine Compatability
Slight thread revival guys but I've checked under the cam cover and everything appears to be normal, no shards of metal lying around etc. Difficult to see the followers with the cam still installed and covered in oil, however they're all similar to this... https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4747/40611795...

Re: AWX Engine Compatability
Don't forget that second hand engine can have worn camshaft too, so I would investigate carefully your current engine: camshaft and tappets, and if timing was snapped, compression test could show if any valves have been damaged and not sealing properly. After that make decisions about engine swap o...

Re: AWX Engine Compatability
Apologies, I read your response as a used cam not used a cam! So is it likely that this can wear is as a result of the timing belt snapping? If not is it likely that there's damage elsewhere in the engine from that (bent rod/valve)? I just don't want to replace the cam to then have to strip it all d...

Re: AWX Engine Compatability
If I were to repair rather than replace is there any downside to buying a kit like this rather than a used cam? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F111088814183 I can get a second hand engine for £250 locally so that doesn't seem too bad. I'd probably p...

Re: AWX Engine Compatability
Timing belt came off under previous owners care, a new belt was put on and it still runs. I bought it cheap knowing all this so not too bothered. There's a thumping sound in the airbox and the top end is quite tappy when cold. Once warmed up the tapping goes away but there's still a tick from what ...

So to clarify I can get either engine so long as I retain my original clutch, dmf & gearbox? Hopefully I've understood that right.

Is it a straight swap including clutch etc? I think ive there's two engines that are identical except for the clutches. Not sure on the codes though.MiniMental wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2018 11:15 am AVF is a direct swap. Can also be fro A6, Skoda etc as well.

AWX Engine Compatability
Found myself in a bit of a pickle and need to get a replacement engine for my AWX PD130. Is there anything else that's compatible or should I be looking at AWX engines only? I've posted a wanted ad but it seems like this forum gets more attention - does anyone have a known good engine they'd sell? I...

Re: 19586/P3130/012592 - EGR System: Regulation Range Exceeded
Took a video of the egr internals, looks pretty clean to me. Definitely not sooted up. In the video I'm sucking and blowing on the vacuum line and nothing seems to be happening inside. When I do the same on the ASV vac hose the butterfly valve closes properly. I'm guessing that the EGR diaphragm is ...

Re: 19586/P3130/012592 - EGR System: Regulation Range Exceeded
The chances are that the EGR valve is a gunged up sooty mess and is effectively blocked. Remove, clean and refit. Be aware that this is a filthy job, you will some carb cleaner but most of the gunge scrapes out. It actually looked quite clean when I had the hose unclipped today, there was a bit of ...

Re: 19586/P3130/012592 - EGR System: Regulation Range Exceeded
Bumping this thread. I've changed the vacuum hose today as there was a groove where it had rubbed on the engine cover but no difference. Does the fact that I have vacuum at idle mean that the n18 valve works as it should? Is there a way I can diagnose whether the EGR works or not? I can suck and blo...

Re: 19586/P3130/012592 - EGR System: Regulation Range Exceeded
I fixed this on a friends car. At idle, there should be vacuum on the egr hose, pull it off and check. If there isn’t. Change the valve. I did on one of my mates cars I look after and it fixed it straight away. 54 Passat Wagon PD175 99’ Audi S4 Avant 2.7 QTO ;) Just checked and the hose has vacuum ...

19586/P3130/012592 - EGR System: Regulation Range Exceeded
Having trouble with the above fault code.
If I clear the code with vcds it will return after a few hundred metres of driving so not intermittent.
I suspect the n18 valve rather than the egr. If I remove the hose from the top of egr and suck on it what should happen?

Any chance anyone could send me the correct wiring diagram for a 54 plate Passat estate AWX PD130? I'm trying to check through my wiring to repair the central locking using a diagram I found online (p32&33 - http://vwts.ru/electro/wd_p_99.pdf) but the wire colours, pinouts and splices don't matc...
