B6 front [candle] lights - options?
The front dipped lights are completely driving me crazy in the dark short days. I have 55W HID kit, even replaced the bulbs, and still no good. Even some old fiesta outshines it quite considerably. Standard halogen is plain invisible. Would I gain anything by installing something like Bevinsee V45 H...

Re: Tyres for B6 wheels
I've been running 235/45/17 forever which is what came with the cars originally and nothing is rubbing. However the profile is definitely too low for the car. It needs more rubber. New B8 cars have meatier tyres. Ideally this is what I would go for if I was replacing all 4 now. P.S. I took a risk bu...

Track rod ends + hammer = ERROR and Lights?
I just need a confirmation if a hammer should never be used to remove track rod ends and doing so may lead to steering angle sensor being fried? I had more failures over last few years than I'd like to remember and I begin to suspect this is what is being done to my car just prior to it happening. I...

Re: Passat Estate 2010 b6 alarm keeps going off
It's possible the alarm is on its way out as the internal battery dies and shorts everything in its path. The good news is you can disable the alarm sound with VCDS in a few minutes. I can remember the exact location but could look up if needed. Just dig in and you will find it. Of course you must a...

Re: >et40 to avoid problems?
Hell yeah , personally wouldn't go above 18" and a Audi common tyre size of 245 40 is good with an 8J rim . That's what I had for the summer and it felt actually better than standard 235 45 17 on the original wheels. These 17 tyres are the worst size to find if you don't fancy new. The weight ...

Re: Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 4 Bank 1 error
Economy has been awful for quite a while now. Hopefully this will be the solution but I fear not yet! The regen at least according to VCDS managed to happen not long ago. We shall see shortly what happens after the sensor swap

Just to warn you I find Bilstein B4 exceptionally hard without even lowering. Certainly have a look for a more comfortable uprated shocks. Maybe Koni FSD is suitable???

Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 4 Bank 1 error
Hi, I just wanted to ask the opinion if you would just try a new sensor and hope it all goes back to normal like it once was a very long time ago or would you say we have DPF terminal issue (and the fix?). Last few months it was easily drinking 20-30% more diesel than before. When driving a long dis...

Re: Back the passat world,b6 or b7
Highline spec tends to be "leather" which is none else than some synthetic imitation. Unless you need the "standard" wide seats look for CC style ones if you can find them. Superb actually is more comfortable configuration and is either top of the line or a basic taxi spec. Estat...

Re: BKP underboost
Buy the £15 vacuum pump / brake bleeding kit and test all the lines and vaccuum throughout. It is not hard just a little tedious and slightly dirty. Good vacuum should be over 20 mm or else that is your culprit. Diagnostic kit like VCDS is invaluable if you plan to keep it or get another VW. Just bu...

Re: Back the passat world,b6 or b7
Late B6 with CR engines will be almost identical to B7 in every aspect except worse styling. OF course, minor engine refinement will be the reason to go for B7.
I'd much rather look at B8 which is an substantial rework if you can stretch to it or maybe a very cheap Q5?

Re: Front strut top bearing
Audi TT RS / A3 RS spec top mounts fit Passats and all Golf-5/6 derived vehicles!!!! Everything is the same except a little stiffer. That's what just got fitted (FEBI OE because it was dirt cheap as opposed to £150+ Audi parts only bill). I am worried about FEBI bearings but there is probably a bett...

Re: Bulb Upgrade
most of the ebay or aliexpress HID bulbs will be fine. Metal ones are probably slightly better. 5000 or 4300 both look acceptable. Just don't go any higher! HID wiring kits also caught up. Obviously a canbus compatible 55W ones are required as opposed to cheaper non-canbus option. Mine lasted 2 year...

Re: H7 / HID bulb adapters
I will answer my own question. There is a £2 and a few pennies kit from Aliexpress. It is perfect for both halogen and HID. Fitting is a bit tight and fidly but once in they will stay there. One of these will be fine https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2Pcs-Car-LED-H7-Bulb-Holders-led-headlight-base-for...

Re: Am looking to buy a Golf. Advice needed.
Just get 2.0TDI 140. Very economical and plenty fast.
1.9 was the cheaper option and with BXE "upgrade" in 2007 it even got terribly unreliable. Flying conrods through the block that is.
Now it is replaced with 1.6TDI CR which is slow but pretty decent.

Re: 2008 estate, only pne front pad wear sensor?
Yes. Only left side if I can remember correctly.
The wear should be relatively similar on both sides and ideally you'd replace them well before the light comes on anyway.

Re: Front strut top bearing
I should just maybe hire a B8 for a good weekend and see if I manage to wreck going through my usual roads, and I'll throw in a quick run to Skye just to be sure. Next car will be Audi. Q5 and A6 allroad if I can manage. Different suspension. Or a different brand of 4x4. I have this issue on another...

Re: Front strut top bearing
To be honest I was very unimpressed with the OEM struts. Gone in 8k, soft as a jelly from day 5. They are made by one of the suppliers at the end of the day, not vw themselves. I checked for hd versions and couldn't find any for top bearing or mount. One suggestion on golf5 forum was to use Audi TT ...

Front strut top bearing
The stupid thing is broken again. I think I am changing them like 2-3 times a year. All it takes is just a generally rough road, nothing special at all. In Cotswolds it is all pretty rough and bumpy. I've tried a few from the Birmingham parts shops, FEBI from EBAY and some other reasonably big names...

Re: 1.9tdi or 2.0tdi?
"I'm getting high 40's mpg on mixed motorway/rural roads mainly." Keego I get high 40's with a stock 2.0 litre 170 Sport (EGR/DPF) with 208k on the clock travelling on mainly A roads and with very slight town driving. Would have thought a 1.9 would have been more frugal? From experience I...

Re: 1.9tdi or 2.0tdi?
The earliest 1.9 might be OK, as long as it is not the later BXE. Flying conrods and more. Low on power too for such a big car.
But generally, the CR 2.0TDI is the way to go. B7 or Superb II would have the newer engines but it depends on the budget.

H7 / HID bulb adapters
My car is late 59 highline model. I believe they might use a slightly different holder than earlier versions Currently it is running with [badly] modified / drilled stock holders. I can't put a stock bulb back in it for an MOT bar some bluetac  , and to be honest they don't even always stay...

Re: Disc pads cost
Grooved are about bitting into the pad more / clearing away dust . I'd stick with plain rotors having had most . Biggest cost effective difference in brakes is going larger diameter , simple leverage physics . Then pads . grooved / slotted clear away dirt and before they get the chance to damage an...
