Re: New shocks: Bilstein B4 or KONI Sport?

Ill take the car cheap if you really want rid :) short of chassis damage it would be worth a challenge. I'd rather take it to a military site and make a nice video out of it rapidly expanding and vaporising during an exercise :-P It could be quite profitable if marketed right. No chance of chassis ...

Re: New shocks: Bilstein B4 or KONI Sport?

Droplinks: I was absolutely fed up with changing regular ones every two months. That's how well they are built. Moog, TWR, Meyle, Febi... all of them. Adjustable ones are set to the same length anyway but there could be a 1mm or so error. Maybe, just maybe they are meant to be set up in a different ...

Re: New shocks: Bilstein B4 or KONI Sport?

UPDATE: I went with the Bilstein B4 shocks and B3 (OE) springs on the front and also had adjustable polyurethane drop links ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Adjustable-Drop-Links-for-VW-Passat-3C5-2-0-TDI-16V-Estate-08-05-11-10/282514380528?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438....

Personally I prefer the standard look too. All black might work if you removed all chrome trims around the car but I wouldn't go there. Red wheel hub cap is a bit of an outlier too... I'd have it blacked out.

Re: HID Kits, Failing MOT Yes or No

For MOT I'd swap them back to halogen and then afterwards swap back. Job done. The projectors in B6 are so poor it is not safe to drive at night without xenons. They still appear far dimmer than most other "normal" headlights on the highway... Compare this to VW EOS with a slightly differe...

Re: New MOT rules regarding dpf (May 2018)

my other vw, the one without the dpf, is due for test now anyway so will get it done. The question is would you be OK selling it later on as is or does it have to be labelled as spares for legal reasons? Passat is near the DPF replacement time and I guess I will need to be cleaned instead of gutted....

Re: Tyre Width

I am considering 245 / 40 R18 on Audi 8J alloys (pretty much audi A6 spec). It just means more rubber meat and it will look bigger so softer and prettier with standard height setup. Hopefully there won't be any rubbing or speedo mph issues?

The standard highline is 235 / 45 R17.

TDI CR Engines of the latest B6 are very nice. Suspension is still very poor and prone to prolonger and expensive failure.

Re: Steering rack very loose

Thanks.

I've had refurb unit on now sold 2006 SEAT and I wasn't really happy. It was extremely hard and then quickly went super soft - poor handling in any case. I'd much rather try a second hand unit from a scrappy.

Steering rack very loose

In the long saga of suspension component failures the steering rack is giving up. Car is scary and dangerous to steer right. It a '59 plate Highline estate. Without removing it I can only see "PMG 7805501470" The catalog is giving me a list of codes 1K2423055K 1K2423055KX 1K2423055J 1K2423...

Re: Heated Seats

Fuse SD39 (10A) if your car is RHD. Do test the others too. VW owners manual is wrong for RHD cars.

Failing that you need to scan for error codes with somethign like VCDS.

Apart from 1) DPF it could be 2) blocked EGR and / or EGR cooler 3) bad injectors 4) blown turbo (black smoke) 5) internal engine faults, etc. It really needs diagnosed properly.

Re: VW EOS lowering suspension

I would say the HR spring kit on the EOS feels very acceptable, but obviously the front struts are now very soft and bouncy as they are leaking oil. I hope the B4 takes lowering well. My standard height B6 Highline feels horrible with them + B3 springs - sort of weird irritable and nervous feeling d...

VW EOS lowering suspension

The EOS currently has H&R springs from golf R32 kit and a mix of struts in fairly bad shape. That's how I bought it and now it is worn out, at least the shocks and bearings are. I probably won't keep the car for very long - up to 2-3 months more - only because I'd like an SUV in its place. I cou...

How about adjustable ride height coilovers or air suspension? This would have it all covered. Failing that you could pick a nice Touareg.

Re: DSG problem and loss of power

DSG boxes are tough on Dual Mass Flywheels and they fail a lot earlier than the ones fitted to the manual boxes. Mine started around 110k and lasted another 26k before I got fed up of the clanking. Turbo probably needs a clean as the OP has reached the at risk mileage range. Mine was replaced at 10...

when pulling hard up a hill the car gets to about 3000rpm whenthe heater plug light starts to flash and the engine looses power, it becomes gut less and won't pull. If I stop swith off and restart the car the fault is gone. Any ideas, I'm at the stage where I don't want to spend a lot on it so all ...

Re: DSG problem and loss of power

Probably just needs adaptation reset with VCDS or VAS. It helps a lot with smaller DSG issues but not if it is terminal. I could do it in 20min + good test drive. Do make sure the oil was changed, not just box ticked or fake receipt issued by dodgy garage. Probably have it changed again. The alterna...

Re: The dreaded Glow Plug Alarm

Check glow plugs resistance with multimeter. They could be finished as it is 10 year old. This is where I'd start. Also do VCDS scan. Or you could have issues with DPF getting blocked. This happened a lot to my EOS at the terminal stages. If coil light comes on together with engine light this may ev...

Heated steering wheel is defo NO1 feature I am missing. It makes such a big difference in cold weather, while I barely touch heated seats.

I hope the little KIA serves you well. The parts are mighty expensive unless you ship everything straight from Korea.

Re: New MOT rules regarding dpf (May 2018)

Well, lets consider the question, how many manufacturers supplied accurate data for emission values. Perhaps some of these vin values are ambitious to the point of fiction :) If they are ambitious, probably they were achieved by cheating or using special conditions. That's then something MOT tester...
