Re: Convert VR6 from Auto to manual

I suggest you go onto the Corrado forum at the-corrado.net. There is at least one thread on there relating to converting from auto to manual in a VR6.
By the way your car looks superb.

best wishes

Re: B3 brake problem, hard pedal on hard push

Are there any air leaks into the brake servo? Take the air hose off of the inlet manifold and suck on the hose. There should be no air coming through the hose. (Blowing will not work due to the non return valve). If there is a leak, maybe the hose or the connections are faulty. Otherwise it could be...

I have my VR6 Corrado on classic insurance through Elephant, £150, 5000 miles p.a. Might be worth an enquiry.

Goodbye.

This is goodbye from me to the B4 forum. I have sold my 1994 16V Estate together with loads of spares to another enthusiast in Suffolk. He has promised to get it back on the road, so maybe it will reappear one day. I do hope so, she is too good to suffer being dismembered. I had owned it from new, s...

Re: B3 spark issue

Could be a faulty relay, for example the engine management system. Also, if your engine has one, the crank position sensor. Another common fault is the ignition switch, a cheap fix but an absolutely horrible fiddly job.

I would expect that a contemporary Golf would have the same lock, so this would greatly widen your source.

But how are you going to open the door to get at it? I repeat my offer to come and have a look if it is not too far from St Albans.

Re: '94 Passat CL front passenger door stuck shut

Further to this, I have just looked at a spare door handle to remind me of the layout. There is a forked lever fitted concentrically onto, and turning with, the rear of the lock barrel and held on to it with a circlip. If the circlip comes off, the forked lever will not turn with the barrel and the ...

Re: '94 Passat CL front passenger door stuck shut

If you can see the inside of the outside door handle now that you have cut away the door card, there is a small white plastic cylinder which goes down and pushes the release lever when you try to open the door from the outside. There is also another lever right next to it which is turned either by t...

Re: Engine cutting out on B3 estate

Does this car have a crank position sensor? My B4 ABF engine does but maybe not on yours. They can go faulty. It is just behind the front engine mount, rather difficult to access. You will need to undo the front engine mount bracket to get to it which means supporting the engine on a jack. By the wa...

Re: Vr6 conversion help

No. There will be a cover by your right (assuming right hand drive) knee below the steering column. Pull it out and there are all the fuses and relays. The back of the cover is very usefully detailed with which fuse does what. To get the fuse/ relay board out there is a retainer each side of the boa...

I have to apologise for giving incorrect advice. The oil filter socket size is 32mm not 36mm. I was confusing it with the oil filter socket size on my VR6 Corrado.

Re: Oil Filter Housing Socket

By the way, if you use Longlife oil and want the 15 000 mile interval to be recognised by the onboard computer before it sends you a reminder, you will need VCDS to reset it. The procedure as mentioned in the handbook only gives a 10 000 mile interval. Probably not an issue if, like me, you change t...

Re: Oil Filter Housing Socket

36mm is the correct size for the oil filter. You may need to clear some minor bits and pieces to one side to get the cover out but it is all very straightforward. The undertray is also a simple job. There are two or three larger torx head screws at the rear edge and about six smaller ones around the...

Re: Vr6 conversion help

You cannot use the existing gearbox, it will not bolt to the VR6 engine. You would be well advised to get the appropriate wider subframe to accommodate the correct driveshafts, hubs and brakes. I dont know if the golf VR6 subframe is the one you need. Then you will need the right steering rack to go...

Re: '94 Passat CL front passenger door stuck shut

You can access the screw in the door edge that retains the external door handle as follows. Open the rear passenger door on that side and look through th gap behind the B pillar to where the screwhead is concealed. With a long crosshead screwdriver you can get access onto the screwhead. Remember tha...

I don't have, but go to M. Chapman Auto Services in Hatfield Road, St Albans. 01727 844 179. Speak to Mike, David or Sam. Tell them that I recommended that you go there and they may do the analysis for the price of a drink.

My B4 16V

It has been a long time since I was here, but the excellent news is that my B4 16V now rejoices in the acquisition of a brand new MOT certificate after 20 months off the road. The damned ABS warning light goes off only in the warmer months of the year so I caught it on a good day for the test. In th...

Yes it is perilously close to the fuel tank on the right hand side of the car so a torch is (should) be out of the question. Re: B3 Sunroof prooblems

Yes it is cable operated. And the mechanism is quite unreliable. Think yourself lucky you dont have a Corrado, They are much worse. The easiest fix is to get one from a breaker, and swap it over. I think B4 roof fits. There used to be a repair kit from VW but no longer.

Re: Weird cold air burst when turning!?

The air from the heater continues in a straight line as you go around the curve, so it misses your face temporarily until you go in a straight line again. Once it leaves the vents it is free in space so goes in a straight line according to the laws of motion. You get the impression of it blowing col...

Tom, thanks for advice. I still have it, to Mrs B's disgust, and will have a look. It still starts and runs perfectly. Just that ABS light. So to your car. Corroded brake pipes need replacing not wire brushing, you know it makes sense with family on board, so maybe £200. CV boot kit perhaps £15 an...

Are the multi function steering wheel buttons illuminated and doing their jobs ? If not the electronic module behind the steering wheel has failed. Fairly easy to replace once the steering wheel and airbag are off. But if you have satnav, the module is quite expensive.

Re: help needed on testing spare ABS unit-B4

Hi Tom. Undo two screws that hold the support bracket to the car. The loom connector is held on by an over-centre retainer. Get a screwdriver under the clip and lift it over. The multipin connector then pulls off the ecu.
