1st gear crunching

Hi all. A few weeks ago, the gearstick felt a bit odd, a bit like you were stirring porridge with it (best description I can think of), then it went back to normal. However, just this week 1st gear is crunching when you engage it, but not all the time. I do try to engage first a bit more gently now ...

Tailgate issue

The last few days I've noticed an intermittent problem with opening the tailgate (2004 AWX 130 PD Highline). I can unlock it as normal with no problems at all - either by pressing the button on the key or pressing the switch on the drivers door. However when I go to lift open the tailgate, the switc...

Re: Clonking noise from front suspension?

Sounds exactly like the problem I appear to have with mine! Still not got to the bottom of it. Car been through several mots like it, and my regular garage cannot find any play anywhere....

Please keep us posted with any news on this, cheers.

Re: Battery charging

I see you've sorted your issue now, but FYI CTEK also do an adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket and charges the battery that way. Only if the socket is a permanent live though....

I've used mine successfully several times.

Re: Thule 775 feet - anyone run these on their B5/5.5 Estate

Have only just seen this question. I use these feet on the estate and have done for some time now. I think I've had them for about 6 years now and use them once a year with 4 bikes up there, and several other times during the year with 2 bikes. No problems to report, they are quick and easy to fit, ...

Re: Squeaky belt - 1.9TDi

I too had a squeaky belt for ages and just thought it either needed adjusting or replacing. At the next service at my local VW indie, I asked them to check it out and it ended up as a worn alternator pulley. Only replaced that and it's been fine since. Actually, it's been quieter than it had been fo...

It's here: https://erwin.volkswagen.de/erwin/showC ... tration.do

I got there by clicking on the "password forgotten" in the "log in" area, then it brings up another page then clicked on "register".

Hope that helps.

Re: Window Switches

I had similar with mine. The drivers window switch was getting more difficult to use in "just a little bit up or down" mode, you had to be careful you didn't push it just that little bit too far and operate the auto down. All other switches fine. I assumed it was just wear and tear. Main s...

Try Ultimate Finish. They sell lots of different products from different manufacturers and are very helpful on the phone with advice.

Re: Changing pads and discs

Dan is right that the front pistons just push back in. I wasn't sure before I did mine so bought a piston re-wind kit off Amazon that can be used for many cars! Cost less than £20 if memory is correct. When pushing pistons back in remember to keep an eye on the rising brake fluid in the reservoir, ...

Re: clicking noise from heater matrix

I had similar a while ago but it just stopped. I don't remember it stopping and starting at 20mph though. Thought it was all the time, obviously the faster you drive, the more the road noise which drowns out motor noise. If memory serves me right the independent I use said it was the flap motor and ...

Re: Wiper arm issues blade missing screen HELP!!!!

I had exactly the same problem on my B5.5. Wipers wouldn't clear a certain area, so I just assumed there was oil or some other contaminant on the screen. Cleaned screen and wipers VERY thoroughly but didn't make any difference. Cleaned again using iso propyl alcohol. Same result... Bought new wipers...

Re: radio reception has gone rubbish

The exterior of my old aerial was falling apart, and I could only get the main BBC radio stations. When I eventually replaced it with a new one from the main stealers I found all these different radio stations I'd never even heard of! If memory serves me right, I may have paid in the region of £15-...

Re: Thermostat gasket

I'd definitely be replacing that gasket as a minimum! As you've only just bought the car I'd be replacing the thermostat as well. Just recently did mine, and the coolant temperature sensor (cts). Got the parts from the main dealers rather than a motor factors, more expensive, but at least I know the...

Make sure the old 0 ring is out. I did! And it most definitely was! I found out what my particular problem was with doing this: I left it that night as trying to do it with a torch in my mouth wasn't the best way to do it.... The next morning I tried again to no avail, got frustrated with the new o...

Re: How-to - Coolant temperature sensor swap out B5.5 1.9 PD

You make it sound so easy! I'm in the middle of replacing the thermostat and CTS on mine (2004 1.9 TDI). One of the "fingers" inside the thermostat housing snapped off, do you think it'll be alright or should I get a new housing? Also, trying to put the new CTS back in and it's proving to ...

I have a 2004 TDI Estate which came with 205/60/15 Kumho tyres. They seemed ok but I replaced them with Continental Contacts (cant remember which particular Contact, possibly 2 or 5?) of the same size when it was time. Have been using them for a few years now and they seem to last well - but can't t...

Hi all, Got them from Ebay, the photo shows them to be original parts but the ones I received had no markings on them so I'm assuming they're pattern parts. In this instance I don't mind (as they're a fraction of the main dealer price) but the seller should state that in his description. Fitting the...

Hi all, Many thanks for your help. I did actually pop one out to get the part number in the end. I didn't know that would be on there, the garage that serviced it for me mentioned that as well as yourself HARRYSPADGE. Stamped on it were the codes: 7M3 919 275, then under that: PA66-GF30. Parking sensor

Hi, does anyone know the part number of the rear parking sensors for a 54 plate 1.9 TDI estate? Main dealers want astronomical amount of money for them, (need 2), found some on ebay but seem to have all different part numbers for items that look same in the photos? I've not actually removed mine yet...
