Re: '98 B5 Budget Build

The 1.9 is almost as good round town but on the motorway the V6 comes into its own. The V6 is fragile, the injector pumps fail and the cams are made of chocolate, either of these will economically write one off. The 1.9s however are relatively bombproof and with a map perform the same with better m...

Re: '98 B5 Budget Build

What a shame that got taken off the road, such a clean example. Yeah I've noticed the A6 is much heavier than the passat but it is a diesel wagon compared with the petrol saloon I had which was about 200-300 kg lighter. Overall I've been really happy with it so far, the torque compared to the petro...

Re: '98 B5 Budget Build

I did that. Had an 2002 '02 B5.5 (2007-2009) and part ex'd it for a 2005 '05 A6 (2009 only) (Final Edition C5 Avant) which got written off less than a year later when some donkey rear ended it doing 50mph, it was Audi 1 Merc 0 but it was still a bannana shaped write off. I then ultra-shedded it for...

I got the we carpet in mine.
That was the first thing I made sure was done within a day of getting it. I still remember the passat having about 2-3 inches of water beneath the battery

Re: '98 B5 Budget Build

After a few days driving about I can say I'm rather happy with these coilovers (JOM Blueline) and how the car rides. Yes its obviously firmer and you feel the road but it doesn't feel too firm to be uncomfortable but for under £200 I really can't complain. Next job on the list is to fix that damn b...

As promised. pics of the B5 post coilovers:

Had to wind the front threads up by 20mm as I was smacking the sub frame on the speed bump exiting the car park by my house. Now I only graze it.

Re: '98 B5 Budget Build

Just got the coilovers in. only took 8 hours. 3 of those in the rain. That front end is so daft to work with. Had to do the rears twice as I needed to remove the adjustable spring perches and cut down the bump stops as it was sitting far too high compared to the front. I'll be getting pics up over t...

Carpet glue is exactly what I used which is why I now know not to use it haha. Contact adhesive is what I believe I should have used. Oh well, live and learn.

Re: '98 B5 Budget Build

I quite like that. With the satin black finish, I used a Halfords finest satin black rattle can, it only needed one, to paint my road bike (pedal not motor) and it looked a bit rough in places with the same shadowy bits I can see I your rear door. What made it look amazing though was when I flatted...

You rattle can sprayed your car? I'm guessing that'll be bilistering off the car sometime soon. Especially if you did the whole job within a day. . I did the bumper trim with the same paint last july. Hasnt faded or flaked since then. I properly prepped the car before hand too, sanded down the orig...

Re: '98 B5 Budget Build

Update: not really done much with the car for the last couple of months but I'm planning on respraying it and fitting coilovers in the next 2-3 weeks. The headliner started to sag last week so rather than take it out and start again (the first time was such a ballache) I used some dress pins to pin ...

1998 B5 Saloon Boot wont open.

No matter what I do with the key or central locking, the boot lid just doesn't not open (or lock). Already crawled in through the back seats,to remove liner and manually release the latch. The latch does still work, replaced it with one from the wreckers last Sept when the old one busted and since t...
