Re: exhaust smell in cabin

Clamp on ,if available could still be prone to leakage.A weld on properly welded will rule out that spot .A leaking flexi should be fairly obvious.

Re: exhaust smell in cabin

Probably exhaust flexi needs replacing, its just after turbo, weld on replacements can be purchased at most auto factors.if not check exhaust manifold for tightness/leak.Egr recirculating pipe if working.

Re: vag com/full VCDS software

Just hold the key to the right or left in the barrel, and windows should open/close.If you have to rush out to close them because a thunder storm is approaching ,saves you getting into the car ,turning on the ignition, then holding the four switches .I didn’t need any coding on mine.

Re: New undertray - recommendations?

Looks the part, don’t know about the quality, cheap enough ,just wondering about the inside padding ,would you use the old one or is it destroyed , would it make much difference, I have repaired mine with strips of light aluminum and small gutter bolts.

I didn’t use Any spring compressors, but I had a decent trolley jack under the tow bar, when I got the car body high enough, the springs were easily teased out ,fitted my rubber seats into place, and pushed the springs back into place, and slowly lowered the car body and reattached the shocks, It may be ...

Do them as well regardless of mot inspection, they will steady up the rear even more , and dampen road noise, I did mine top and bottom, just needed to release bottom shock bolt, and raise car high enough to remove rear springs.

Yes price is a factor , when you see tempting cheaper sets, and the car is getting on a bit.I am hoping that the stronger bottom ones may do a fair few km still even if the rear top doesn’t last that long.I may just put in one cheap arm for now.Vechicle inspectors love failing those arms on annual te...

Just sharing this for any one pondering on front arm replacement,so I noticed a familiar light rattle n/s front on speed bumps. So up on jacks and found small play in ball joint of top front arm n/s.This was a meyle hd arm fitted at 374k(km).Now at 492k.Granted the meyle are a bit more expensive,I th...

Just before changing ur engine mounts again, if that was my car I would check each tyre/wheel by rotating by hand and checking for uneven/low high spots. No matter how recent or not Tyres have been changed.

No harm in checking brake hoses/Lines.Also caliper dust/dirt boots.Slide pins and pad carriers .Brake fluid change? If so check your bleed nipples are not seized first.Dont forget to pump the brake pedal a few times when job is completed before driving off.

I would say yes ,for the simple reason that mine works that way ,you may need Vcds to carry out this function.

Just like to clarify,I’m not saying Egr is good at all,This is just how I believe it works to leave no drivability issues,it has a job to do and cruising allows the best opportunity ,other wise you would have other issues .please correct me if I’m wrong. Could there have been a little trick done wit...

Re: egr delete/disable better or worse MPG??

I’m not a fan of Egr myself ,much advice seems to be get rid of it.maybe now is a time to think differently,if the turbo isn’t working ,its a crisis and understandably.but the Egr system isn’t that different (valves stick clog)(turbos stick ) pipes leak, solenoids become sluggish Fáil pumps fail ,But...

Re: Bonnet release cable snapped

I think you may need to modify a T30 bit, prop the bonnet as high as possible and use a T30 that doesn’t have a square drive pressed on ,you can use a spanner directly on the bit, even cut the Hex end if needed ,

Hi,fitted moog, and febi to my passat in the past got around 50 to 60k,(km) .On reading good reports here on Meyle Hd ,fitted them and there still solid at 100k (km)The cheaper sets seem to have poor quality dust boots ,so Milage may not be your only factor.

Re: B5 PD 130 gearshift balljoint 6 speed

Yes it's possible to remove the gearshift rod without lowering the transmission, when loosened inside the car and small link removed from rod outside, the gearshift rod can be pushed forward by the left of the engine and then removed rearwards when enough clearance is got, you will need patience and...

My symptoms were ,while my engine was warming up and waiting at traffic lights I could feel it missing a beat ,just like engine was switched off for a split second, l could not feel any unevenness when the engine was up to temp, there were no codes ,and a injector harness cured my symptoms.

I cannot remember exactly what happened, but a while back I changed my brake light switch,I believe it was the holding up of the brake pedal that allowed some flimsy fitting to become dislocated, and the pedal wouldn't sit at the right height, you probably know what it is? It affected the switch ,but...

It's a very good idea,to be 100% sure you have the proper glow plugs for your engine code/chassis number.other wise there could be a possibility of piston strike if two long of plugs are fitted, and if the shorter ones are fitted by mistake you could be baffled as to why you may still have lumpy smok...

Engine off more than a few seconds Asv open ,Engine off Egr valve closed always.Leaking egr should give engine malfunction light.Egr valves seem to clog up with oily blow by gasses and hot exhaust gasses.Removal and a good clean may be good enough.Dont confuse Egr with Asv.
