Re: Which Car Has Disappointed You The Most?
Probably the '02 Merc A170 CDI I had before the Passat. Was around 7 or 8 years old when bought, seemed a nice car with decent milage and all the toys on it. It lasted two weeks before the auto gearbox locking itself in second and the car in limp mode. 'F' code came up on the dash, got it into Merc ...

Re: Front brakes - workshop guides
There wasn't much difference in the price of discs, but I couldn't really justify the extra outlay for the carriers. Difference of rear ending a car or not, I've had no problems so far and have found the brake response sharp enough. I've been at the end of a crash on the motorway, and the car stood ...

Re: Front brakes - workshop guides
Cheers for the tips guys. Budget is a bit tight, and I don't want to skimp on quality so I've ordered good quality parts and sticking with 288, as don't really want to shell out for carriers and bigger discs. Also managed to land myself with a copy of a Haynes for £6 delivered, which I can't compla...

Front brakes - workshop guides
Hey guys, My MOT is due in a couple of weeks, and I want to do my front discs and pads before it goes in. The car's got 127k on the clock, and the service history shows no sign of the front discs being changed, and when I'm slowing down, as the car slows from around 20, there's a jerk which occurs, ...

Well since people are asking for pics, I gave this a go last summer and to be honest, it didn't come out that bad. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k195/goblin92/ED37B688-5BDE-4C8A-B5AB-1B4D45D85110_zpsojm43kqy.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k195/goblin92/F08BCE1A-F714-4EDA-8161-4FF02401A880...

The catch I reckon. Very common fault for the microswitch (which is built into the catch) to get wet and go funny and cause various electrical issues in that department.

Re: Rain has upset something
Picked up a replacement from TPS today, they allowed me to change it there and then too as they needed the original back. Looks like water had gotten into the connection and made things go bad, which they were cool with and said happens all the time. Clean up and squirt with WD40 and new part fitted...

Aye that's my plan for spring, I'm heading to America in 2 / 3 weeks until March, so I'll be keeping it in a garage over winter. Let's see where a replacement latch / switch gets us though. Everything crossed!

Re: Rain has upset something
Fingers crossed it's not the CCM, that's the last thing I need to be dealing with in the three weeks of running around manically before working abroad for a quarter of a year! I've been onto TPS and they're replacing the latch / switch under warranty as I put a new one in only a few months ago, so w...

Rain has upset something
As the title says. It's been hacking it down all of yesterday and today here, and earlier on my alarm randomly blew. I thought nothing of it as it was also really windy. But I noticed as I was driving to a friends this evening that it was telling me the boot was open, and it was flickering and const...

Re: poor economy what could it be?
How's your temp gauge reading? My economy's been pretty down recently, and my old man borrowed the car for a day and commented on how the temperature gauge was fluctuating between 70 and 90 (I never noticed!). When it's misreading it's usually the coolant temperature sensor or thermostat. I changed ...

Re: Mpg too low...
Has the coolant temperature sensor been changed? They're notorious for going! My economy on my PD100 has been pretty questionable, changed the sensor and it certainly feels to pick up better since changing it - not had a chance to take it for a decent run yet to get a proper idea of economy now.

Re: Ambient temperature issues
Had it in at Awesome GTI today having cruise control fitted and asked them to have a quick look whilst it was there. Turns out the climatronic unit itself is shot, as it's also permanently switching the aircon on whenever it's in auto. Spoke to my mate who's got an Octavia VRS and dropped his spare ...

My old Fabia did this, turned out to be the alternator was overcharging - new alternator required. It might not be the same but it's always a starting point.

Also I'll add that when going for the recirc and econ button on the climatronic unit, the only error code that comes up is 513. All I can find is Gateway 513 but that doesn't really give me much help!

Re: HIDs on a 5.5 who still uses them (a kit)
A lot of it's down to colour temperature too. Too blue and you'll get unwanted attention. 4300k is believed to be the closest to that OEM white, and the best light output. I'm torn between whether I want to put in 4300k or 5000k at the moment! I should probably decide before winter tbh.

Ambient temperature issues
No I've not got issues with the actual temperature haha. On my climatronic and readout on the dials, it tells me -- degrees C. I've looked into it and so far it's had two sensors, neither of which have worked, and I've traced the wire from where it plugs in, up to the multiplug near the steering flu...

Re: Genuine 1.9 PD mpg figures
I'm running a PD100 and it seems to be averaging 46mpg, that's over 11,000 miles since end of Feb of a good mix of motorway and town / country miles. Not sure if that's good or bad, but I'm also regularly carrying a full boot of gear, and often a full car of gear. So, I'm pretty happy with it!

Re: Tinted Windows or Sun Shades?
I think it depends on the tint film. The company that have tinted my Passat (and previous Merc / Fabia) use Johnson film, which is top quality and definitely reduces heat and UV.
Cheap single ply film off eBay and such though, not quite so convinced!
