I have the freeware version of VAGCOM - not sure what to check though.
... I do tend to do a few miles in it.

Re: New blower for B5.5 sport tdi
Car's now upto to 93k & still whining. Its not 'alot' worse than when I had the car 50k miles ago, but it can't be right. Things that make me think its on its last legs: > there's an oily mess on in the intercooler in and out pipe joins (I've replaced the seals for fancy green ones - but no diff...

New blower for B5.5 sport tdi
The funny whining is driving me potty (sounds like a police car is chasing on lift-off) and the oil on the inlet to the intercooler makes me think the turbo has had its day. Cars only done 80k - and whined pretty much the same for the 40k I've owned it :( Shame previous company owner didn't get it s...

Re: B5.5 TDi Sport fuel consumption
Sad to admit I've managed to get 70mpg av. on a 40 mile trip to work. 60-65 all the way
It regulalry does 60-63, which makes me thinks there something unusual happening - espeically seeing other posts.
(trip is about 3-4 mpg optimistic though)

Re: retro fit cruise control???
I did it a few weekends ago and its one of the best mods I've done to a car. At the time it seemed like a lot of hardwork - removing steering wheel, dashboard, man-handling wiring looms, cutting knuckles etc, etc. My advice is: Get VAGCOM working - as mentioned you can buy a lead for £10. Get the t...

Re: Retro fit cruise control help
dubber36 - cheers for offer. Its about 50 miles each way so I couldn't get there and back in an evening and was hoping to get it sorted before holiday next weekend. alun- .... tell me about it. Was looking for a warning triangle on flea bay and panick bought it without doing the background work! Tho...

Retro fit cruise control help
Brought this kit last July for my 'Sat and then realised how hard it was to fit. Finally plucked-up the courage to do it yeterday and 6 hours later its all fitted - no knuckles left, but it seems OK. Is there anyone with Vagcom near to me in Stourbridge that will enable it for me? Don't want to spen...

steamy windows....
I have a TDI sport (it has climate control) and as soon as the outside temp drops below 0, it seems to mist up lots. I recently changed the pollen filter but it made no difference. I did spot that it didn't have any kind of cover over the element - is this normal? It seems to keep the car cool enoug...

replacing side lights
Had a look in the user manual and it says return to the dealer!
Looked in the Haynes manual and it talks about taking the bumper off to remove the headlamp unit. There must be an easier way
- hopfully someone knows the secret.
Thanks
ps I've got a B5.5 - in case the light are different.

Unusual front brake wear?
The brake warning light has been on for a while now, so I took the wheels off today to give them a quick check. Found two unusual things. On near side and off side, the inside face of the brake disc has 10/15mm of rust on the edge. The brake pads were all >6mm except for the inner off side which was...

I was chatting with a BORA owner who works at a rolling road. He said ECU remaps never deliver the power expected. I didn't quite understand what he said he was trying on his car - but I'm pretty sure it was a plug-in solution. He said that made the greatest difference. The motto for me is speak to ...

I've got a sport 5.5 which has a grill with a bit of chrome on it. I fancy replacing / upgrading it with an all chrome grill. Anyone come across one?

EBC greenstuff pads
5mins after picking up my green stuff pads (which I haven't put on yet) I changed the tyres on my passat. I mentioned to the fitter about the pads and he did the 'sharp intake of breath' thing. He said they had fitted them for people who had then complained about them being rubbish for everyday use ...

I have a sport sat that always looks too low when I hitch anything on. I find its a good reminder to keep within the noseweight limits of the car. (is the passat about 65kg?) A good rule of thumb for noseweight of heavy trailers is 5% of the laiden weight. Anyway, although it looks low it never bang...

What tyres?
All my tyres need replacing :( Its a sport PD130 & I've got pilot primacy on the fronts and pilot HX MXMs on the rears. The car handles really well with these so I'm tempted to keep with the HX MXMs... BUT .... I really like Goodyear Eagle F1s. These would work out a bit cheaper, but I can't get...

I'd like to know how to seal the pipes too. The pipe into and out of my intercooler is a terrible fit and theres the same gunk around it :( Every time I check the oil I wiggle them back in place. Can't help but think it makes the air filter a bit redundant! I did buy some jubilee (hose-pipe) clips, ...
