Thanks for your comments and some good advice, and whilst I'd admit my expectation is low (questionable efficient proactiveness) and with good reason.

Has anyone successfully managed to get speed cameras onto the new Discover Nav or Discover Pro ?
For it to be effective it must include an audible alert, a proper on screen camera icon and the distance to camera a reasonable distance. :-bd

My current car is a 2009 B7 estate, it cost me dearly to have the sat nav, most annoying same as your comments overall my TomTom beat the factory unit hands down. :-q
Now fast forward to my new B8 order, it is very annoying VW are still lagging in connecting driver to car and interacting ~x( !

I did get an upgrade on my software and yes it had speed cameras, they also didn't sound on approach and have since disappeared.
I liken it buying an alarm clock without the bell ! Pretty damm useless especially as the TomTom is so interactive with all the points of interest which is how the RNS ...

I've got the factory sat nav in my current B7 estate and updating to a new B8, but here's the thing I've found the RNS 510 increasing frustrating,
1/ It hasn't got speed cameras
2/ When changing route, it take an age to re-route directing me back to the old route for miles

I run the latest maps and speed cameras on my rns 510, updated via sd card and works great, but when i''m not in my passat i use tomtom on my mobile phone, and the yearly subscription cost is cheap too, full traffic etc :)

Here's the thing, I'm a b7 estate owner (and loving it with loads of toys :-bd ) with the RNS510, I haven't upgraded the maps for 18 months ( don't know what VW would charge and won't go down the illegal route ) and am wondering whether my old TomTom wasn't and still would do a better job than the  ...

Tell me you didn't pay that much money for it. Fitting is also straight forward. It's all plug and play and two boxes to tick in VCDS.

Michael I too have the RNS 510 and like you was an avid user of the Tom Tom.

The speed cameras are no where near as good as Tom toms. They DO NOT warn you!! You have to keep looking at the map to detect them yourself with no advanced warning, which you might as well just notice them yourself lol ...
