B6 LHS speakers dud
Hi all, I have an issue with my front and rear LHS speakers. They hardly emit any sound at all whereas the RHS are working fine. For the last few months I've just cranked the balance control over to favour the RHS but I would really like to get the issue sorted. I can't put any volume whatsoever thr...

Re: New rear calipers, discs and pads EPB
I took advice from more experienced forum members and got hold of a battery charger to connect while using the VD500. You can’t have the engine running while it’s connected apparently. Although I didn’t have one connected first time I tried to communicate with the EPB module I was lucky and didn’t c...

Re: New rear calipers, discs and pads EPB
After struggling for a couple of weeks on and off with my caliper / disc / pad swap I eventually did manage to get everything working yesterday afternoon using an Ancel VD500 I bought off ebay for £40. Initially I thought I was going to have to drive to a mate who has VCDS and there were questions o...

Re: New rear calipers, discs and pads EPB
Based on my recent experience of replacing rear calipers and advice from other forum members I would definitely recommend VCDS to perform the reset rather than any other OBDII tool. You must also make sure you have a battery charger connected to your vehicle while you are connected to VCDS during th...

Re: NSR EPB not operating
Thanks Mitch, The reality is then that I may well have already done the damage to the brake modules when I first was trying to reset the calipers before I decided to replace them. I've now got the brake bleeding kit so I will get hold of a battery charger (I do have one for a motorbike but I'm guess...

Re: NSR EPB not operating
Thanks Mitch, quick update, am still waiting for a brake bleeding kit to be delivered, it should come on Tuesday then I can hopefully get the car finished. In the meantime I have fitted a Pure Highway 600 DAB radio / bluetooth handsfree kit and it is bloody brilliant! It was no harder to fit than a ...

Re: NSR EPB not operating
Hi Mitch, i wonder if those injector readings could be anything to do with the car being chipped? (before i bought it). The car runs absolutely fine and always has. I'll run the car for a week or so once it's back up and running and see if they come back. Assuming they pop up again I'll run it into ...

Re: NSR EPB not operating
quick update, have done something else useful with the scanner and resolved the parking sensor issues, maybe it's not a piece of cr*p after all. One sensor failed on the front and one on the back. Swapped them about, cleared codes and scanned again to be sure it was the sensors not the wiring that w...

Re: NSR EPB not operating
Oh I forgot to mention, the only semi useful thing I managed with the scanner was to read these: 17669 - cylinder 1 pump / injector valve control limit exceeded 17675 - same for cylinder 3 Have cleared them so will see if they return if / when the car goes back on the road. Anything to worry about? ...

Re: NSR EPB not operating
Wow, what a PITA getting those caliper carriers off, horrible design, but off they are now. The old pads and discs were a mess, so good job to change the lot. Went to use the cheapo scanner I bought on ebay to release the parking brake and nothing happened. Asked me to release EPB even though it was...

Parking sensors - fault finding
Ok guys, here's another one for you. While the car is out of action waiting for the rear brakes and EPB to be sorted I'm also replacing the front bumper as the current one got bruised when my gf left the car on our super steep driveway without the handbrake on. The parking sensors haven't worked for...

Re: NSR EPB not operating
Hey Mitch, I'll certainly have a look at the wiring, but for now I am going to replace rear pads and discs and put it all back together and see what happens. I know it is wishful thinking, but the pads that came off the NS were much lower (almost down to the metal) than the ones on the OS, so I'm ho...

NSR EPB not operating
Hi all, have got an EPB problem that I can't see covered in any of the existing threads about EPB's, apologies if I've missed something though. Yesterday morning on way to work there was an almighty bleeping all the way there but no warning lights on the dash. The only time it didn't beep was when t...

Disable front PDC, keep rear?
Hi guys, in need of some help with this one please. My trusty Passat had a coming together with a wall (the missus didn't put the parking brake on and we have a steep drive). As a result I now have a second hand bumper to fit which is in good nick, the right colour, but has no holes for front PDC. W...

Re: Parking Brake failed MOT 11%
Quick update, did exactly as recommended, got the rear callipers cleaned up and it sailed through it's MOT, no need to mess about with the EPB motors, which was a result. Thanks for all the help guys.

Re: Oil Pressure Warning Light and Limp Mode
Hi Mitch, no, it's been in the garage the whole time as I've had a company car, and the noise was awful so I didn't dare use it for fear of the turbo ending up inside the engine. The play in the old one was huge, so it must have been close to letting go. Was a grim job by all accounts, very glad I d...

Re: Parking Brake failed MOT 11%
Thanks Mitch, it sounds like it is worth a shot just to get the car through the MOT, then I can take my time and overhaul the rear brakes properly, the pads and discs have plenty of meat in them but 9 months sat has taken it's toll. I'll get the lads here to clean up the pins etc, drive it round the...

Re: Parking Brake failed MOT 11%
Thanks Mitch, I was wondering what the implications would be of taking the motors off the calipers and giving the spindles a twist. As I don't have VCDS or vagcom, if I just de-activated the parking brake, took the motors off, did a 1/4 turn and then put them back on would that cause an issue?

Re: Parking Brake failed MOT 11%
Hi James, not sure on the readings but will ask tomorrow, the car has sat for months, some of it in a garage so there is a good chance that the pins are rusty I guess. Cheers, Ben

Re: Oil Pressure Warning Light and Limp Mode
Hi Mitch, finally got the turbo sorted, decided not to attempt it myself and thank god I didn't, was a horrible job. Mine came from London Turbo Charger Centre, very happy with it, just waiting to sort another issue so the car can be MOT'd and then I'm putting it back on the road. Cheers for all the...

Parking Brake failed MOT 11%
Hi all, I'm trying to put my trusty B6 wagon back on the road after not using it for 10 months and it has failed the MOT as the EPB is not sufficiently strong to pass the MOT. I work at a BMW dealer so you can imagine A: the stick I'm getting, B: they haven't got a clue about an older car especially...

Re: Oil Pressure Warning Light and Limp Mode
Thanks a lot Mitch, it's been a case of two steps forwards, one step back over the last couple of days. I put everything back together on Sunday, but the battery was totally flat having sat for three weeks, so I didn't get a chance to start the car until yesterday evening. All seemed OK, I let it id...

Re: Oil Pressure Warning Light and Limp Mode
Thanks Mitch, I'm not quite out of the woods yet, the current struggle is finding TDC. It is covered in the manual you sent me but I can't make head nor tail of it in relation to my car. I can spin the crank and from underneath see when number one piston is roughly at it's highest point, but I canno...
