End of the road...Micro-CAN VCDS available

After 9 years of ownership (and 115,000 added miles) I no longer have my trusty B6. I have gained a huge amount from UK Passats, and have tried to contribute something back when I can. I am willing to part with my Micro-CAN VCDS interface for a reasonable price, please PM me. It is genuine, with ori...

Re: A question I shouldn't be asking...

I replaced mine at 170k. I was long distance commuting at the time and the noise from the DMF at idle became quite concerning. In a probably quite sad way I enjoy watching Kevin-Albert Williams's channel on YT . He changes a clutch/DMF each day and comments that a DMF usually lasts about 75% of the ...

Re: Rear Lower Shock Bolt - Access & Torqueing

When I did this job in 2016 I think I torqued up the lower shock bolt without the spring in place. Haynes suggests you need to use a spring compressor to remove the rear springs...not the case, just support the track control arm with a trolley jack and remove the bolt connecting it to the hub before...

Re: Chrome door trim removal 2012 cc

Those strips are glued in place with plain spigot holes in the door to help with alignment, no other fasteners. If you want to re-use a strip then you have to remove it very carefully without bending it excessively - otherwise the plastic chrome effect will distort.

Re: Changing rear pads VCDS question

Then back out the pistons using VCDS / other brake service setting software. On later models the dash will ping and the P parking brake fault warning light will illuminate to signal a service ready state (certainly after 2008 models I believe but not for earlier 2006, 2007 or 2008 if I recall). Thi...

Re: Retrofit heated seats to a B6 estate

The last stumbling block is a reference to "Control Unit for Central Electric". Any ideas ? I've apparently got to find Connector C pin 1 - and the worst part about it is that they Kufatec refuse to tell me or help me in any way further. Pretty sure that'll be the CECM, located just up fr...

With the door open tighten down the top bolt on the lower hinge mechanism (the bolt should be under a rubber cap). That'll stop the noise.

Re: Passat B6 2.0 TDI Re-installing twin balancer gear driven oil pump

My question is when I re-install the pump assembly do I have to worry about timing it to the crankshaft or doesn't it matter. It does matter, otherwise the balance shafts won't do their job of reducing vibration. This is done by locking the crankshaft (standard procedure when, for example, replacin...

Re: Central locking fault

I suspect your deadlock in the offside rear door has failed. You will need to replace the lock mechanism - I've done both of my offside doors in the last 3 years and bought second hand units from eBay each time, they're a common fit across VAG cars and should cost no more than about £25 inc postage....

Can fully recommend Ctek chargers. Daughter borrowed the B6 earlier in the year and accidently completely drained the 5 year old Halfords calcium battery (from an accessory connected to an unswitched supply). Instead of replacing the battery I used the money on a Ctek conditioning charger instead - ...

The bottom strip is held on by one screw and then slides about an inch (can't remember if towards the front or back) then will pull off. Check it out on your old door first.

Re: 08 B6 2.0 TDI shaking under acceleration

What was the state of the fuel filter? Is the noise from the fuel lift pump (under rear seat) excessive? You shouldn't be able to hear it after starting the engine. About 3 years ago my B6 started running roughly under load and the fuel pump was whining. Took it out it out and the pump was quite bla...

Re: 2008 Gear stick stiff side to side.

Cables attach to the top of the gearbox, easy access if you lift up the air filter box. If the bonnet is stuck then ask an assistant to press down on it while operating the handle, should pop open. No point just pulling hard on the handle as it'll snap (I'm an expert on this - £15 on eBay for a new ...

My BKP is chain...early B6, registered Aug 05 and VIN 41xxx. Did the KMB balance shaft / hex key on about 135k as a precautionary measure and before replacing the turbo. Now over 210k and all good.

Re: KMB Balance shaft install

I reused the bolts on the balance shaft assembly cover plate, but to attach the whole assembly back onto the block I would strongly recommend new stretch bolts (iirc there are 3 different types). You also need a low range torque wrench (up to 25NM).

Re: 6 or 12 spline?

If the calipers are original to the car then the motor should be 6 point (hex) with a standard plug. The motors were changed to 12 point (spline) in 2007/8 and the plug had a notch added so you couldn't mix them up (although the motors are identical electrically).

Re: How do I remove rear door barrel blank ?

As title above, how do you remove the barrel blank on the rear doors of an estate? I already have the cover off. Remove rubber plug on the trailing edge of the door (about level with the handle). Undo the screw inside a few turns (T20 bit) until the barrel blank can be removed. It's a captive screw...

Re: P0299 Turbo

With this mileage would you go for a recon’ed turbo or just the actuator? Really depends on how long you plan to keep the car. If the turbo is original on that mileage then it's likely to fail anyway (as a minimum oil consumption could be higher than expected). Companies like Midland Turbo can refu...

The standard grey trim is 3C0854939A on the front left door, the satin black version is 3C0854939A9B9. Have a look on eBay. the front doors on saloon and estate models are identical, obv the rears would be different. EDIT: It's held on by a single screw at the front, once removed the trim slides abo...

On my BKP it's at the front of the engine bay, central, just behind the bottom of the radiator. It's screwed in to the top of the boost pipework on the exit side of the intercooler. The pressure sensor on my car is part number 038 906 051C, I think it'll be the same for a BLS.

Re: 12 volt outlets

The stock setup is 12v sockets live on ignition on. If you have permanently live sockets with ignition off then it may be that someone has fettled with the standard setup in the past. Interesting, because I quite like the always-on setup and just took it for granted. The car was pretty stock when I...
